hey everyone. new to the forum. I just bought a TX last week and have been unable to get Versamail to connect with my GMail. I've configured both the device and the GMail to the correct settings found on GMail's site and various forums, but it still will not "get" my mail.
Can anyone help me please?
I know some here may say, "just use the gmail mobile site." Yes, i realize I could do that (and will do that), but I still want the Versamail to work as well. Why? To integrate PIM contacts and for reasons of principal. If the TX is supposed to be able to work with GMail, then I want it to work dang it! lol. ;)
Anyway, any help would be MUCH appreciated

Did you use the settings on this page:
Gmail (https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287)
I used them on my TX and it works well with Gmail - the only problem I had was sending mail at first attempt, but I changed the port number and all was well.

Don't know if this will help you, but I was sure I had everything set up correctly and couldn't get it to work. My troubles turned out to be that I had entered my Gmail username without the @gmail.com in the Account Name blank. I read and reread carefully, but I somehow kept missing that I hadn't entered the whole thing, I guess because I'm so used to thinking of the username as the part before the @gmail.com.
I also changed the SMTP port to 587, which is different from whatever the VersaMail default was for VersaMail's own Gmail setup.
My lesson, which may only be good for me: One bonehead error fixed and one change as suggested on the Gmail POP3 configuration directions page and it works like a champ.

thanks for the input.
FerdFerd: I have tried configuring versamail with the username with and without the "@gmail.com" (note:there is not enough room to enter the full "@gmail.com" name in the account name). Neither seem to have worked.
WillBeWill: I have also configured it via gmail's recommended settings.
Is there some ambiguous checkbox or setting somewhere outside versamail that could be causing the problem?

Not sure if this will help but I did all the setup of gmail with versamail on the Tx over wifi not via the desktop.

I wonder if the fact that your account number won't fit is what's the trouble. I have no trouble getting my full account information. My username is eight characters long (that's the part before the @gmail.com part).

It's strange, but I didn't change anything from the included VersaMail Gmail configuration (on the device itself) and it works.
The only problem I have is that while HotSync, VersaMail Desktop hangs for 1 minute. It's surely a timeout, but I don't have any clue what it is trying to reach.

i think it may be that my office's wireless network blocks pop3 protocol. the message i get when trying to "get" my gmail via versamail is "cannot connect to pop.gmail.com...". haven't had time to try it on any other networks (because Nashville, TN has a gross shortage of hotspots, supprisingly), but i'll let everyone know if it works elsewhere. thanks for the input.

I was wondering did you enable Pop in the forwarding and pop tab in settings on gmail?

I once found a network were pop.gmail.com couldn't be resolved. Dunno why. Try to eneter pop.gmail.com's IP instead of "pop.gmail.com" as resolved by your desktop computer. (Try "ping pop.gmail.com" in the windows/unix command console).

so it did turn out to be the network. last night i was at a friend's house who had wireless and the versamail client jumped right on google to retrieve and send my mail. all is good. i'm leading the revolution against all over secure networks...who's with me?!

I've been having the same problem, neither snapper mail, nor versamail will connect to gmail.
Gmail is configured properly, and I use Gmail on my Macintosh with Mail.app, and on my linux box with Thunderbird.
I'm beginning to wonder if it is a network security issue for me as well. But why would Mail.app and Thunderbird be able to connect via those ports, but not my PDA?
same problem here..if I turn off the firewall on my home wlan, gmail works fine -havent identified which port is the culprit!
