You don't need anything. Just hang out in Starbucks.

You will want to have high speed internet (DSL, Cable) and you will need a wireless access point. Check out the wireless forum for more details.

Starbucks?? Don't they have a service that you have to get before you can access the wireless access point? If so you'd probably need their SSID and WEP information. But if you don't.. that's cool.

in theory, all you need in addition to the WL100 card is a browser and access which can be obtained by either purchasing a wireless access point for your network at home or office or visiting a WiFi "hotspot".

Navigate to the www.80211hotspots.com site and look up sites in your area. As mentioned above, Starbucks has WiFi for public use but you need to pay for an account from them.

As for the browsers, Larry has made good points about the problems with NetFront. I think it is easier to use Pocket Link.

I have only used mine for WIFI from home. I'm not really finding a lot of wireless hotspots that don't have an associated fee. Starbucks does, and many hotels that have WIFI do too.

Try McDonalds, they do it all for you! You can get one hour increments, I guess it depends on how many happy meals you can eat.

BTW, do you want fries with that?

Another place you can nose around:

According to the lastest WIRED Long Beach, CA is a hotbed for HOTspots,

T-mobile supposedly has an offer to get to use their t-mobile/starbucks for 1st hour free (but the website has no mention, again from a WIRED ad)... the least expensive service is .10 a minute BUT a minimum of 60m per log in =/

profvisor, you vegetarian too? I am!

For me I'd like the WL100 to HotSync wirelessly with my PC, and when I can get DSL, get online as well.

Sure am, T1000X!

That's pretty much what I use mine for. I rarely hotsync in the cradle, to easy to do it from wherever I am in the house. Plus, I use the wireless router to check email, message etc. I sometimes browse, but the speed isn't so hot. LOL Of course, I paid about half a limb for mine, but it was a "gift" so I don't have to feel quite as bad.

In your Clie, make sure PowerSaveOn is unchecked!!!

In networks prefs advanced settings.

The polling can kill the speed, connection, or both!

To be honest, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the crappy software we get ... when will a 'landscape' browser be in the offering?

THAT WOULD be NICE!
