The "next" NX? I hear it's supposedly going to come out in the spring (after the NZ's debut). Any thoughts on what kind of upgrades this one will have? Will I want to return my NX60 and wait a few months? nah...I spend half my life loading stuff on it and tweaking the crap out of it. Too much trouble. But I'm still curious nonetheless.

It would be nice if they'd put more than 16megs of Ram in this sucker, of which we can only access 11megs. There's no reason why there shouldn't be at least 64megs of Ram and 32 megs of flash rom for the price we're paying. Also, if they placed the speaker and microphone intelligently, the NX would make for a killer IP Phone. Giving RMC the ability to be a learning remote would make it more than wasted ROM for anyone who has a cable or satelite box. The list goes on, so I'll stop yammering... Just like you, I am curious and will hope they do something to atleast make me consider utilizing my extended warranty...

I'm hoping for improved memory as well. Man, I just used the app Filez to view all the apps and databases in ROM and it's disgusting. They put all the RMC codes, tons of .swf welcome files, etc. Why don't they just put them in normal RAM and let us delete them if we like. 4megs of crap isn't worth it. whoops, sorry got off the subject.
I can't imagine them improving the camera especially if the NZ is a separate product offering. What I would imagine is something similar to the N710 and N760 launch. Probably just the updated software for MSPro, maybe a removable battery, but that's about it. That's me being realistic.

At least 32 MB of RAM, improve the keyboard and better battery life.
Support for any wireless CF card or modem not just the overpriced Sony one. Better yet use a sled approach to expandability instead and allow the consumer to purchase a CF or PC Card expansion module (that supports any cards).

Well, then lets talk about the next NZ.
I would like dual memory stick slots.

I doubt the NZ is the true successor to the NX. There is no way they would leave such a gap from the T-series to the NZ series. Theres a $400 difference. They will definatly need a $500-600 device and I'm sure there will be an update in the near future.
32MB RAM would be a must, and the keyboard from the NZ and Bluetooth is all things I would like to see in this device.

How soon would this next generation NX come out? I am looking to buy a NX70 in a couple hours, but if the press release comes out tomorrow I will be very unhappy

Nope, but it might help!
Sony has said this will be the year of Clies, so be prepared for the onslaught!

I'd like to see 32-64MB internal, bluetooth, removeable battery (or non with 2x batt life), and CF memory card access. They can leave the keyboard out for all I care...

Didn't they say the same thing about the Nx? It's not the successor to the NR, and wham - there it is and the NR is but a fleeting memory (completely forgotten and the price tag 250 bucks cheaper than when it first rolled out.)

What?? Did you read the rest of what I said? I can't see how the NX wouldn't be the successor to the NR. Nearly the same form factor and was introduced at the same price point.

"Unfortunately, our current keyboard is NOT compatible with the NX series of clie's as Sony made internal changes to the connector that we were not aware of until the products were released. Sony does not plan on making it compatible until they launch their next versions in the Spring when they make the next NX PDA's compatible. We are sorry we cannot help you out at this time."
This is a quote from Clieplanet quoting a company who makes pda keyboards. It sounds like a new model of the NX will be released, aside from the new NZ.

Does this mean that all those whom have bought the current NX will not have any offerings for keyboards other than what fellowes is offering. If that is true that is a whole lot of crapola.

how many months did it take for the NRs to be just a faint memory?

Nearly 6 months. I bought my NR70V at the end of April, and NXs became available late October. By that schedule, we should expect a new NX by late April again (but we should hear about the Japanese model by mid-March -- just in time for CeBIT :)).

Well, I for one still think my NR is the shiznit!
:-)
I've finally got it tweaked with the MS issue addressed by Sony, the stylus is a fixed so it fits snug, the screen is lubed so it doesnt creak... and I have all teh software I want on it and configured. Phew!
Why change now...it's only 8 mos old!!

I seriously doubt that a new NX series would take precedence over the current model...for one, the BIGGEST difference IMHO in the NR and NX is the OS. From what I understand, that is the reason the keyboards don't work with it...maybe I'm incorrect about it, so don't bash me. Anyway, I can't see that another NX could be just a whole lot different from the current models...otherwise it wouldn't be an NX. The SJ series all look similar, so the form factor will probably be almost the same, and I doubt very many things will change....I'd look for more memory, built in bluetooth...that's probably about it....unless they have some other kind of wireless connectivity (not wifi, Im sure) in it....oh well, I guess we'll wait and see.

nextyoyoma---the nx has a better camera than the nr--a faster cpu and voice recorder----I think those are a lot of differences
Okay, okay, okay! I speculate that the next NX may have the following features!
1) Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-fi (ala iPAQ)! No more CF Slot!
2) 5gig built-in HD as previously reported by 'Unregistered'. This could be the based on MS PRO or Microdrive specs.
3) More Audio/Video functionalities.
4) Using the latest Intel chip (Manitoba) for smartphone and handheld devices.
