I had finally worked out how to get music on my clie NX70v, and then this number comes up:

"This track is unavailable for one of the following reasons: The Memory Stick media is write-protected or does not support copyright control, or the track file is corrupted."

Can anyone tell me if there is a way around this?

Thanks

Chisler

It is most likely a problem with the MP3 encoding.

Either the files are not 44.1HKz sample rate, or they are VBR (Variable Bit Rate).

Clies will not play MP3s encoded at anything but 44.1KHz sample rate. And the newer OS5 Clies will not play VBR (which really sucks because the older OS4 Clie played VBR fine and most of my MP3 files are VBR).

You will need to re-encode the files to get them to play.

The recomended settings for music are 44.1K (sample), 16-bit, stereo, and fixed bit rate. Data rates up to 192K/sec work fine. My NR will play 256K/sec files as well, but I have heard others have problems at 256K and higher so YMMV. If you are using the Sony headphones you won't benefit from high bit rates anyway, so you can encode at 128K/sec (or even less) and save space.

I'm sorry, I'm new to this whole thing - how do I convert?

Acquire a free MP3 encoding program (like dbPowerAmp). record the CD into your hard drive, converting the songs to MP3.

Open the Audio Player in your PDA. Go to Options/Transfer. Your computer should connect with your MS, and a drive folder will open up.

Go to Palm/Programs/MSAUDIO. the files MUST be put into that folder in order to work. Copy the files there (you should see the little music notes moving on your PDA Screen).

Go into the Audio Player, the music should be there.

I had that message before. Sometimes a soft reset would solve the problem.

It's probably the encoding method. I use a freeware program called CDex http://www.cdex.n3.net/. It can rip a CD directly to mp3. Download it, install it, then go to the encoder settings, select the L.A.M.E. mp3 encoder(I think you have to download it separately), disable VBR, set your encoding rate at 128 kbps, then go ahead and rip. Transfer the files using MS import (you have to transfer them one by one starting from the first one if you want them to play in order) and it should work.

It used to happen to me all the time. I use Goldwave to resample my tracks now.

Thanks all, a soft reset did the trick!
