Cingular last had an update in November, check the updates page for more information there.
There is rumored to be a huge update in February to coincide with the release of the 700p. Neither the 700p or this rumored update are confirmed however.

Try doing a standard hotsync first (to backup everything, or use your favorite backup utility).
Then Hard Reset (reset button + hold down power button)
When you run the installer from windows again it'll ask what profile, make a new one (just for the update process) I called mine "Updater" - this should give you more than enough free space to cover the 15MB required for the updater.
After the flash, and the "restore sync" hard-reset your phone again - clearing all the stock information it syncd - then when you hotsync again, select your usual hotsync name, and tada!
Got the process from Treonauts (http://blog.treonauts.com/2006/01/treo_650_update.html) - Just simplified it down a bit :)
Hope it helps!

I just purchased an unlocked Treo 650 off of ebay. It is branded Cingular and the guy from whom I bought it was the person who unlocked it -- as opposed to the folks at Palm. I have two questions:
1.) How can I tell if the updater has already been installed?
2.) Does it matter who unlocked the phone? In other words, if the updater has not been installed, which version do I choose: Unlocked or Cingular?

It's not a "Unlocked" then .. It's a Cingular ..
The only thing it's that it has been unlocked to use SIM chip's from other carriers...
But u can't update with the file discussed in this topic..

So, is there a way to see if the Cingular updater has already been installed?

1. Goto Phone App
2. Menu -> Options -> Phone Info
That will tell you the versions installed, look at "Software" line, should tell you the current version installed.

Since you are a Cingular model your latest is 1.17. If you have that then you have the latest. Doing a search at Treocentral for the 1.20 custom ROM for Cingular users would turn up a homespun version of 1.20 that would work for you.

There should be a link to point out how to update your 650 correctly.

Hi
I just purchased a 650 (after 3 years using a Dell Axim) from a carrier here in Mexico. As far as I know every carrier in Mexico uses the unlocked version since (ashamed to say) we do not have the developing capabilities for releasing homespun updates.
The 1.20 update is already available for all Latin America. Do you recommend this update?

One more thing, I'm still on old Firmware/Software (1.04/1.05 respectively), should I upgrade to 1.15 before going to this one or just straight to it?

Homie,
I think it should be safe to upgrade straight to 1.20. Just make sure all your data is backed up first!

Hello all,
I'm planning to update my GSM Unlocked Treo 650, however I got this doubt. I’ve red this on palm USA:
************************************
System requirements
• Unlocked GSM Treo 650 smartphone. If you contacted your mobile service provider to unlock your smartphone (subsidy unlock), install the Treo 650 Updater version specific to your carrier: get it here.
• Smartphone purchased in North America, English only. If you purchased your smartphone outside of North America, select a country or region to get the appropriate updater information.
• Windows 2000/XP. Mac users: The Treo 650 Update is not yet available for Macintosh but should be shortly. Please check back for your update. When available, the Mac system requirement will be Mac OS X 10.2.6 to 10.4.x.
• Smartphone connected to AC adapter and the HotSync cable throughout the update:
************************************
It says that this update only applies to smartphones purchased in North America.
Well here is the truth: I don’t know where my smartphone was purchased. I live in Brazil and the store that sale it to me wont let me know (even they don’t know, I guess). How can I figure it out? How am I going to be sure what is the right update for my Treo 650? I’m talking about the file, I’ve selected another country or region (link above), as I was wondering that it could be purchased in Spain, and I’ve downloaded the Treo_650_Updater_1_20_ENA.exe from there. And I’ve downloaded it from USA too. Here the differences right clicking on the file and properties:
Treo_650_Updater_1_20_ENA.exe – USA
Size - 15.5 MB (16,309,040 bytes)
Treo_650_Updater_1_20_ENA.exe – Spain (or Germany both are equal)
Size - 15.5 MB (16,309,431 bytes)
Conclusion:
They are different on size. That means if it was purchased on Spain I just cant get the USA update, right? Can anyone help me on finding the right update for me?
At my treo 650’s box:
TREO 650, GSM QUADBAND EFIGS
SKU: 1040LA
MSN: PTGG08A5H00W
IMEI: 354427006055559
At phone info:
SA Number: 100172404
Firmware: 01.28
Software: Treo650-1.13-ROW
Hardware: A
I will appreciate any help. Thanx

To the above poster, use the Spanish update since you purchased in Spain. The USA version should work fine though.
