I was considering buying a SOny Digital Camera and was wondering if the pictures could be viewed on the nx by just switching the memory sticks from the camera directly to the nx. The camera says that the pictures are stored in JPEG format and my thought is that it would have to go through the image converter program first. Anyone try this yet?

Yes, you can! I've just taken a pic on my Cybershot F55DX and the Clie viewer can see it fine, and zoom in and scroll around too.
My Splash Photo viewer can see it too, and loads it much quicker (natch).
Edited to add: I've recently bought the new Sony FX77DX 4 megapixel ultra-compact camera: if you're after a small and VERY fast camera, this is the one to go for!

Yes, they can be viewed with no problem. Clie Viewer is so slow though. Acid Image ROCKS! Splash Photo also works well.

Here's a picture I took with my sony camera of my clie displaying a picture of my laptop I took with my camera that I uploaded with my laptop. Trust me, that statement will make sense when you see the pic ;)
So there's you're proof unless you want me to take a picture with my clie of my camera taking a picture then a picture with my camera of my clie showing the picture the camera was taking when I took the picture with my clie...
Picture shrunk for you low bandwidth folks :D

My wife picked out a Sony P7 digital camera for Christmas. One of the major reasons we chose it was because of the compatibility, We can use my NX70 as a photo album to show friends/family our pics, without having to spend money on photo paper & ink jet cartridges. Just pop the ms out of her camera and into my NX70.
Also, ater I've uploaded pics from the camera to my PC, I transfer them directly to the MS in my NX70, without using the converter app. Work very well with Acid Image, where you can zoom in/out as much as you like.
While you're at it, buy extra 128mb ms for $34.99 after rebate here:

I have a P2 and the NR and use Splash Photo to view the shots taken.

I have a Sony Cybershot 3.1 megapixel camera. When I display photos on my NR70V, they are very pixelated and crummy, while the pictures look great on my desktop, on the camera's screen and when printed. Why do you think this is so?

What software are you using for viewing photos on your NR70? If you are using PGP, then you can't view the picutres straight from the camera without changing them with the Picture Gear Desktop Software. When you try to view images from a digital camera straight from the camera, they appear very "pixelated".
However, if you try either AcidImage or SplashPhoto, then you can take images directly from a digital camare and view them on your Clie without any difficulty.

Thanks for the help. You would think that Sony would make sure the PictureGear would work going from one Sony product to another Sony product.
Thanks again.
YES, YES and YES. I use my sony P5 and switch between memory cards works great back and forth between my NX60 and P5

Thanks again. Using PGPocket, you can import the pics to RAM, then export the same pics back to the MS, and they will look fine. This process resizes the pics to optimize them for the screen, which gets rid of the pixelation. Kind of a pain, but it is possible to do without needing a computer, and it's not that slow on an NR.

The pixelation occurs because Picturegear Pocket loads it up small (much faster) so you can get a preview of it. This is annoying on large pictures, because after loadign the small pictures you have to wait upwards of a minute (for larger-ish pictures) to load to 480x640 (maximum size).
On Acidimage it just loads the picture at full (or slightly reduce if you don't have the load jpgs at full size option on). This takes a little bit longer than loading a small preview, but it's still shorter than waiting for the whole thign to load on Picturegear Pocket

On the same subject, I have just tried acidimage and was pretty impressed with the loading speed of the jpeg. The loading speed is much faster compared than splashphoto. The only thing that was missing for acidimage was the desktop program to load the jpegs. For acidimage, you have to use msimport to transfer the jpegs into the memory stick. You can load the jpegs directly from the desktop using splashphoto and sync it directly to your memory stick in the next sync.

I tested a dsc u20 at ultimate electronics, and it was amazing how quickly you could take the pic then transfer the memory card to the nx and zoom and save the images.

You can also use PictureGear Studio, which came on the NX CD, to load pics directly to the MS.
