Welcome to 1src :) You've come to the right place.

You could try to USB charge it. You'd have to mod your UX so that the USB 5v+ port is connected to its first prong. Its risky though and if you don't want to open your unit, then you can only get a charging cradle to test it.

Look here for picture detail of what you have to do.

Be careful if you open your unit though, there is a small thin speaker wire that can break if you open the back of your unit too quickly. You have to rotate the back off.

Use this as a guide if your opening your device... http://www.cliebattery.com/up5530install.htm

BTW, I see you posted on my site. I'll post here and there. Enjoy your stay :)

The usb charging cases are the cheapest and easiest way to get up and running mate. Modding your unit with your level of expertise is a recipe for disaster. I wonder how you acquired your unit as they were all originally shipped with an A/C adapter and cradle.

As you and JAmerican are in the same city, I might suggest a meet just to verify you have a working unit before you invest any money

Subway?

Meet in the middle--> via pm, find out which borough people are in and set up a midpoint - I was aware that NYC was a little bigger than your typical village :)
