Great job! :) I have one problem. I own a TX, turned On the Debug Log, and I can´t turn it back off, I unchecked the box, but it keeps showing the purple balloons showing the events. It slows the process (opening or closing takes much longer than it did before), so I want to turn it off but I can´t. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The debug log settings aren't saved between two app runs. You should be able to just go back to your launcher and reopen PalmPDF to get rid of the debug output. Please contact me if this doesn't work. ANother approach is to remove and then reinstall PalmPDF. But this shouldn't n be needed. (Just imagine, I had to reinstall PalmPDF after I had checked something with DebugLog on...)

Faster than any previous version (0.9, 1.0rc1, 1.0rc2) as far as I can see. I've had speed problems with some pdfs because of the way they are coded. All the problem ones load reasonably fast. The ones that loaded fine before now load faster. These are 3 meg files and up.

I installed it on my LD and, I have to say, it works very sweetly! I can't understand why it has taken SO long for this to occur. It has a few interface glitches (the tool bar gets duplicated?!), but great. Once it renders, it is very fast and flexible. The author should win an award. I certainly WON'T be upgrading to D2G 8.
Now I wish someone would create a hacked version of G1 that doesn't crash Blazer!

On my new T|E2 I have the same bug happen when I first installed this release, though it's the first I've seen this particular bug. I used NorthGlide Uninstall to completely remove the program, including the files in the PalmPDF folder on the card, then with a file manager copied the prc to RAM, and the files for the PalmPDF folder back into there folder, ran it and it worked fine after that, but I used the move to card feature again and the same bug occurs again. When I try to open any PDF, the screen says "Copying, please wait..." and then it goes back to the file list of my PDF files.

enotar, Drunkard: That PalmPDF doesn't start up the renderer is very strange, indeed. I've just uploaded a version with more debug output. Please have a test and tell me which black text you can see on the screen (if any at all).
Palmípedo: no, it isn't normal and it should work in all directions. Please also try the freshly uploaded file and switch on DebugLog. It will report the key you pressed. Then try left and right several times and close the app again. Send me then the file /PALM/Programs/PalmPDF_debug.log from your memory card.
Thanks

Okay Henk, I hope this helps. I uninstalled the last version with Uninstall, and re-installed the newest version. When I first ran PalmPDF this time, without first turning on the debug log, it reported an "Error loading the PNOlet." when I try to open any PDF file.
By the way, I'm using the default settings for everything, which is zoom 65%, and Gray mode, AA checked, everything else unchecked except the debug log when I specify I turned it on. Oh, and I'm almost always trying to open the PalmPDF_ReadmM.pdf file included with PalmPDF since I expect that at least that PDF file should work.
So, when I turn on the debug log, it seems to work just fine, aside from spewing those wonderful purple blurbs on the screen, and a debug log is generated in the PalmPDF.
I then tried the move to card option again, and it will not open PDF files, and additionally reports the same "Error loading PNOlet." It also still says "Copying, please wait..." at that point on the screen. A debug log is NOT generated nor are any errors printed to the screen (d'uh) and it returns to the file list view, after tapping the OK button to close the error dialog.
Worse yet, I haven't been able to reproduce either of these bugs following the same procedure I outlined above. I uninstalled and re-installed PalmPDF two more times, and after using the "move to card" feature and NOT enabling the debug log, I have been able to open PDF files without any problems now.
As you said Henk, this is very strange, indeed.
I think this is related to the NVFS/DBCache in some manner, and I asy that because in between the first install where I encountered the PNOLet error, and the last two attempted installs, I received a Fatal Alert relating to NVFSDBCache being corrupted and which forced a manual soft-reset. After that soft-reset, and with two installs of PalmPDF later, I haven't had either problem again. Curious, don't you agree?
Oh, and the debug log entries when I tap left or right keys on the d-pad are below.
For left button:
00183629: key: 00040000 keyBitLeft: 01000000 keyBitRight: 02000000
and for right button:
00183824: key: 00080000 keyBitLeft: 01000000 keyBitRight: 02000000
Hope that helps too. Thanks for your hard work Henk, I can't imagine how much time you've already put into PalmPDf, but thank you again!

Drunkard, I also suspect the DBCache to interfer here. Can you run the DBCacheTool and tell me how big the cache is on a E2? Also, please try to see if the left/right keys work now.

I used the last version, just downloaded a few minutes before the post. I waited for the ready display an the up-down works but not the left-right even seconds after the ready display. All the other hard keys worked properly. What i'm doing wrong? I can't understand, in the older versions the horizontal didn't worked too.

Wow, I just ran the DBCacheTool again only this time I have disabled anything that I could think of (ZLauncher, Hi-Launcher, OnGuard Backup specifically) and did a soft-reset.
Now it reports:
Cache (Heap) size: 9436912
Free: 5251728
Max alloc: 5232496
Quite a difference that makes. I wondered why some apps crash when launched from inside ZLauncher.

I have a Treo 600 and have downloaded and installed the PDF viewer, no problems there. Apparently though even if I do a hard reset and load only PDF viewer I have only some 2700 KB dynamic memory free. Not enough to make the doc's bigger than 65 % in grayscale. Can't really read much that way.
Is this real? Is it likely that my machine will only give me that much memory? I don't think I would download the memory enhancer. Viewing PDF's is not my main function in life and not having damaged memory elsewhere is a big deal.

Unfortunately, the Treo 600 hasn't much dynamic RAM. UDMH might your only chance at the moment.

WORKS!!!
The left/right buttons now scroll on my T|E2, awesome Henk.
If anyone has a copy of LJP, try going into one of the config menus and pressing the L and R buttons to see the result codes. On my T|X, L is 00040000 and R is 00080000 just like Drunkard reported; these are not the default values, which display NavLeft and NavRight (not sure what the actual codes are). I'd guess there are at least two sets of keycodes out there for L and R.

sori i dont understand.
you mean in the PDF file itself, i need to set it the document properties first to allow to copy the content of the pdf? (if yes, sori i dont have a professional edition of the adobe reader, i only have version 7)
MetaView

NOpe, the creator of the document has to allow it. PalmPDF honors the restriction flags, the creator has put into the file. If copy is allowed you can select the file and then select PalmDOC in the menu of PalmPDF.

I am using v1.0 in a T3. I have used landscape mode to improve readability (larger fonts but still full wide page) but I have noticed that the buttons behave as with portrait mode, instead of changing orientation as well. Not really serious, but it could be more convenient (I am used to this from other applications, and just expected the same behaviour).
Thanks

I'm having a little trouble with bookmarking on my TX. When I select a PDF document with quite a few bookmarks in it and open the bookmark window, I find that the text is progressively moved to the right as one goes down the bookmark selections. Eventually, all I see are lines filled with ">>>>>>>>>>>>>>" with the text completely pushed off to the right and out of sight. Is there some way I can scroll to the right to see those bookmarks?
Henk, do you have any plans of improving bookmark presentation?
MetaView
01-22-2006, 04:44 PM
alex: please use the OS staus bar icon to rotate to landscape inside!!!!! the file browser. When you rotate the render display inside the PDF renderer you will get a bit strange button experience. But hte rotated view inside the renderer is especially made for devices which doesn't support the usual landscape orientation. I might later fix some more issues with that. But anyway, it's really more convenient to do it using the OS stauts bar icon.
gooselab: Yes, I've heard about, have to recheck it and will fix it.

Hi mastezone: I've heard about. PalmPDF should be still workable, as it should still react on the stylus taps. It's a braindead implementation of the status bar, which is very different in each and every devcie. I only have 3 devices here for tests. I'm missing T5 and LD, unfortunately.

Hi Meta, I understand you, is impossible to have all device to test software :)

Just installed per Read Me file on a TX.
Very nice.
I did notice one issue - not a big deal. I make pdf's from screen shots, using the Print command (Apple) and downsizing them (again, Print command, Apple). I've noticed one file would not open in PalmPDF. I recreated and resync'd the file several times but it still would not open. I then deleted the file from the directory on the opening page of PalmPDF. Once this was done, the new file opened just fine. Really strange as I saved the file under a different name and it would still not open until I deleted the original.
I have not tortured the product or tried every combination of buttons but, I have opened lot's of PDF's and read them all just fine. I was able to navigate all over the place, change zoom on the fly and go through all of the menu's. Other than the above paragraph, which was more than acceptable, the product is solid.
Nice job.

PamPDF works on my TE|2, so I recommend you maybe re-download it.
i had lots of space left, and even tried after soft reset, but it must have had something to do with heap memory. i had to put it on sd card and transfer it over using filez.

If you are not going to receive PDF files, I would recommend to let it on the SD Card :-)
I had 10 MB RAM left or so and it would not Hotsync over at all, but gave me that cryptic error. I had to play it safe by soft-resetting, and then using a program to manually copy it off. Afterwards I could install it and then use the internal function to move parts of it onto the SD card.

Sounds like it might be a problem with PInstall and NVFS (or heap) and large files.
Wow, it works!
I tried PalmPDF 1.0 after not able to see anything from PicselViewer for viewing US Patent PDF files (2.2 MB, 44 pages or even a smaller 700KB, 12 pages) and PalmPDF is a winner this time :D
PicselViewer gave me a blank 44 pages and 12 pages of those UPS PDF files. PDFToGo either it took a long time or came out with a popup saying insufficient memory. PalmPDF has no problem displaying both files. It is slow opening with my slow TH55, but it is relatively fast in comparison to PDFToGo, which is like watching the grasses grow
Cannot Exit PalmPDF
I recently restored my TH55 and reinstalled PalmPDF, but for some reason the status bar (SB) would not display below PalmPDF file manager when I first open PalmPDF. So there is no SB Home button to tap to exit, just the "Show" button at the bottom of the screen.
When I select a file and tap the "Show" button to open the PDF file, the SB is displayed, below the PalmPDF toolbar. That status bar is used to be hidden and replaced by PalmPDF toolbar. Tapping SB Home or "X" button on PalmPDF toolbar only bring me back to the PalmPDF file manager, i.e., no button to
tap for exit.
Some how the SB display got flip between the PalmPDF file manager and open file GUI. Has anyone experience this and know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Dan

Awesome software. Thanks. It's the new best friend on my LifeDrive. One small problem: I am not able to change the default zoom from 65 percent. No matter what I change it to in Options, it always initially shows me the PDF at 65 percent. I had this problem in the previous version too.

Dear Henk & MetaVieSoft, congratulations for the PalmPDF, it's one, from my favorite program on my Treo 650.

Mike Chicago: PalmPDF stores the settings for the last 5 files, when you open a file once and later change the default zoom, it will not open with this zoom value but with the zoom value it was formerly open. Also at the moment, PalmPDF does not store the zoom value but the selection in the zoom popup list. Means, open the file, change the zoom step in the zoom popup list and close the file. Next time it will be open with this setting.

I am using PalmPDF 1.0 (final release)
My machine is palmOne Tungsten T3
I've installed all fonts in SD CARD
/PALM/Programs/PalmPDF/
and the main program to
/PALM/Launcher/
and moved the reading engine to card.
I tried to open a Traditional Chinese PDF and a Japanese PDF
the characters didn't show properly in the Chinese PDF
and there is no correct font for the Japanese one.
Any clues?
I'm not avalible to capture a screenshot due to key mapping of palmpdf
is one the most top layer and other apps don't respond, also I don't
have a DC to take a photo for it.
p.s. attached testing pdf,
test.pdf contains chinese chars (t & s) and also japanese [jap & s.chi
shows perfect but t.chi does not]
winny.pdf contains jap chars [no font found]

swstar: I've got your email and the files. But could only test them on the desktop Acrobat reader. The test.pdf looks a bit different between desktop and PalmPDF. I don't know why it looks different. Did you ever test it with Xpdf? I will try to find a reason but it's very hard, as I don't know chinese and therefore the chars look all the same for me.
The Winny.pdf doesn't even open correctly on my desktop. I would recommend to embedd the needed fonts in the file.

MetaView: I think it is too difficult for me even to install Xpdf on windows. So I've never tried to open it in Xpdf
In test.pdf, first line is t.chi<shows monster char>, second line is s.chi<correct>, the sixth line is japanese<correct>.
encode environment t.chi winxp pro, t.chi office03, pdf995 printer
In winny.pdf, all are japanese but I'm not sure what fonts are used as I'm not the one to encode the file. When I open it with adobe reader 7, it asks me to download font plugins in order to display the file correctly.

ok, it is even worse in Xpdf. But it might be also a configuration problem. It didn't show any japanese or chineses chars, neither in test.pdf nor in winny.pdf. Also it complains about winny.pdf having the wrong version number, 1.6, but Xpdf only supports up to 1.5. I might have a look intotest.pdf one time and try to get the correct chars displayed, but any fiel like winny.pdf is out of look. It must at least embedd such fonts to be viewable correctly.
