just replaced my th-55 battery, and i read somewhere that in order to re-calibrate the battery(voltage thresholds .. ), one must hard-reset and charge (which is necessary after replacement anyway ... )
where is this calibration data stored, if i restore my system backup, will it loose the new calibration?

best,
d

After replacing your battery, the least one can say is that the device hard-resets implicitly...
BUT, if you want to "recalibrate" your battery, you HAVE TO leave it on charge, uninterrupted, until the light on your clie shuts off. That full cycle will do it.

Restoring your system won't affect it. It is hardware stuff.

If you want to achieve the same results later, all you have to do is SOFT-reset but while your th55 is connected to a power source, and let it charge completely without interruption.

Hope it helps!

What kind of improvement did you experience with the new battery. Since moving from my UX50, the battery on my (used) TH55 is remarkable.

However, I can get about 2 hrs wathcing a movie on TCPMP...battery drops to about 20%...then if I stop the movie, it creeps back up to 40% or so. It will then drain quickly. (screen about 60% for all this)

Does this seem normal, or am I in need of a replacement. Any help is appreciated !!

... re-calibrate the battery(voltage thresholds .. )

No need. The Clie charge / power management circuitry is 'dumb'. As long as it detects the presence of the expected lipolymer cell by load (internal resistance) and appropriate voltage (~2.7V - 4.xV) it should operate and charge as designed. There is a reasonably linear relationship between cell voltage and energy stored - your Clie is just representing cell voltage as capacity, which is accurate enough for these consumer devices.

Which leads to:

However, I can get about 2 hrs wathcing a movie on TCPMP...battery drops to about 20%...then if I stop the movie, it creeps back up to 40% or so. It will then drain quickly. (screen about 60% for all this)

TCPMP will be running the TH55 hard, and placing a high drain on the cell. Pack voltage will stabilise and recover once that load is reduced.

If desired, designers could integrate a Coloumb counter into a PDA, which would calibrate for your cell over a few charge/use cycles, and then be able to display exactly how much energy is left, and hence run time, for the current processor / system load. Just the same as the 'remaining mileage' indicator in your car. :)

thanks for the info ---- the replacement was no problem, i got the 1200mAh from PDA Den.
so far i cant tell too much, i still havent recharged it, but after 1 hour of doing various things (camera, pockettunes ... ) it is at around 90% ... similar o what i had when the old batt was still ok ...

didi_o - Thanks. I've ordered a replacement, but I think I am going to hold off on replacement. With the crappy UX battery, even a half baked TH55 battery is a marked improvement.
