The new sony MagicGate Memory Sticks only allow you to play ATRAC3 audio files, which is sony's attempt at DRM. There are many sites out there about ATRAC3 and the lower quality audio it produces. I am going to stick to using the blue MS until someone figures out how to play MP3's via the MS Pro and not use ATRAC3.

Has anyone experienced having to use ATRAC3? I am trying to decide if I should buy the MS Pro, but I will not if I have to use DRM and Sony's ATRAC3. I wish they would just give us our MP3's.

You're confused. MagicGate is anything but new; the new MS Pros specifically do NOT support ATRAC3. And even with the older MagicGate, you can still use MP3.

Ahh. I did some more research on it. Sorry for the confusion, I read a couple of articles and it seemed that they were only talking about ATRAC3 on the MS Pro's.

This article cleared it up for me:

It appears that you can do both ATRAC3 and MP3.

http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8043 seems to think that ATRAC won't work with MS Pro on the Clie.

That is strange that it won't work on the Clie, since it does work with MS Pro...

Read my lips, ATRAC3 is NOT supported on the CLIE!!! Using MS Pro sticks, source of info is Sony! Yes, it works for other devices, but NOT the Clie.

Source Sony, you can search the forums for the link where it sepcifically says not compatible with ATRAC3 format.

MP3's work on all the sticks. If you want to prove me right, go buy the MS Pro :D!

Dude you don't have to be harsh. I was just discussing it. I just thought it was strange that everything I read about Magic Gate talked about ATRAC3. I was a little confused about ATRAC3.
