I was just wondering what apps/games you guy and gals absolutely can't live without.
So sound-off on your 3 most indespensible applications!!
Mine top three would have to be:
1. TealDoc...I use it ALL the time, I like to read on subway.
2. YiShow...The greatest launcher of allllllllll tiiiiiimmmmmme!
3. DateBook 5...you'll wonder how you ever got along with the bundled calendar.
(I am really thinking about "aftermarket" apps...ones not included with every unit from Sony ;) )

There are two (non-standard) apps that I use several times a day and it would be hard to live without them:
SplashId to store all those passwords, reg.codes, serial numbers etc.
ClockPro to tell me when my tea is ready or to make sure that a 10 minute nap doesn't last the whole day... ;)
Unfortunately ClockPro doesn't work well on the NX70. So I will have to look for another app with similare functions. :(

One application that has not been mentioned that I find absolutely indispensible is Trip Deluxe by Hands High Software. It is the best mileage tracker on any platform that I have seen. It can produce mileage reports that can be exported to Excel and printed for reimbursement purposes.
If you do any type of mileage reporting you owe it to yourself to check it out:

If there is a better program for this purpose available ( I don't know how), I would sure appreciate hearing about it.

messageease
I can never go back to the normal font, it just looks wrong and evil now. Everytime I have to hard reset I install fonts4nx (I keep a dedicated folder to this program on my MS) first then do a restore or reinstall or whatever.
Messageease. I can type way faster with messageease than with grafitti or keyboard. With the exception of the odd sliding error I can type up to about 35 wpm with messageease, combined with word complete it is great.

I think megacalc would do nicely for you... try it, it is great.
A a relative newbie to the NX70 (not to the PalmOS,
however), I think the most important application I found is:
PowerRun
I have 40-50 apps on my MS, and because of that, PowerRun gets used all the time. I'd use my Clie a lot differently without it. It's worth a lot more than the $15 that I spent for it.
The two other apps that are essential to my day to day needs are:
Strip
MoneyTender Enhanced
Strip is a freeware password saver that requires a password to view the passwords, and saves the passwords encrypted within the database. MoneyTender Enhanced is a check register replacement application.

The three I most use are:
Datebook 5 - where am I supposed to be?
iSilo - pass the time
PDA Cookbook - meal instructions
Although PDA cookbook has yet to be updated for the NX (mid may?), in the mean time I found a use for that old handspring visor.

Three are the reason I use and continue to buy Palm OS devices.
Avant Go (reason I bought my Visor!)
DateBook (3, 4, 5...)
Launcher X (III).
My games are Monoploy and Bejewled. There is a ton of other apps, games, and utilities, but those above are all I need to live. (Maybe Okey)

I keep trying different newsreaders like Isilo, MobiPocket, Handstory, etc. but I keep going back to AvantGo just cause it seems simple and "goes with the flow" on a hotsync. ...not really that impressed withn it though. If anyone has an app that really Rocks, please speak up!

Cool :D
I wouldn't mind trying PocketMoney 3.0 out if I knew how well it worked with Quicken on my laptop. I know they're compatible, but I simply love the two-way conduit and seemless transfers from Pocket Quicken to Quicken and vice versa and would have a hard time adapting to anything less. I'll do some research on it though, because I've always wished that I could only enter a transaction once and it be displayed in both apps.
BTW, I forgot to apologize for my 8 count... seriously I tried to keep it to three but *I just couldn't do it!!!* I know, I need help :D

This is an interesting thread to read. As much as I like apps like ZLauncher and DateBk5, if I had to, I could live without them. In other words, the apps I couldn't live without would not really be the same as my favorite apps! Here are my picks:
1. Hot Sync. Quite simply wouldn't use a Palm without it! ;-)
2. PIDirect/JackFlash. Without these, I'd have a hard time using everything else that I want to get on my Palm. I've resisted upgrading from my NR70V simply because PIDirect won't work with OS 5 and the newer Clies have yet to have enough RAM for me.
3. Splash ID. I simply could not do without this app or one like it.
VLevyNYC
06-06-2003, 04:55 PM
1. Vindigo--I can't believe has only been mentioned 3 or 4 times! I use this all the time!
2. Avantgo
3. NYC subway map (allows you to move around locations with the stylus)
4. Audio player (MP3s on the train)
Can someone enlighten me as to what the following do:
a. CF Driver (you mean I can use standard CF cards on the NX if I get this?)
b. Datebook5
c. PowerRun

a. Basically. Go here (http://www.eruwarestore.com/)
b. Calendar replacement. Go here (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/)
c. Allows you to quickly/cleanly move apps to MS and run them from there (conserving often precious memory on the PDA) Go here (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&jid=761XB85AE8AX6X64DBC75AD3BEFC6587&productId=18249&optionId=1_1_2&productType=2&catalog=1&txtSearch=powerrun§ionId=0&platformId=1). Though it seems that the next release of ZLauncher will provide this capability.

Datebk5 is a great datebook replacement. See www.pimlicosoftware.com for more information
PowerRun allows you run applications and their databases off the memory stick. It move the app and its databases to the MS then when you run it it will move them to ram and when you leave the app will copy any changed databases back to the MS and then delete the rest from RAM.
With the CF driver you can use normal CF memory cards in the NX and NZ. There are some limitations, but the still camera and audiplayer work, which are the most important to me.

Unfortunately ClockPro doesn't work well on the NX70. So I will have to look for another app with similare functions. :( [/B]
BigClock is great IMHO. I use it when I travel instead of a wakeup call!
But ahead of that would be DateBk5 and Bejeweled (although yahtC is giving it a bit of a challenge). Sure wish that Tan Kok Mun gave a volume discount because there are a few of his games that I like.

I've been reading these forums for a while now but I just registered a few days ago. I love all the great information that is mentioned for fellow Clie users. :)
Anyways, the programs that inhabit my FAPs [Frequently Accessed Programs] folder are (in no particular order of relevance):
* 40Student (http://www.handmark.com/products/40student/) - Keeps track of all my upcoming assignments in all my classes. Nice web interface to backup your class data for past and current terms.
* AreaCodes (http://www.intrepidsoft.com/products.html) - Great little app that allows me keep pace with the proliferation of new area codes in the US and Canada.
* AvantGo (http://www.avantgo.com) - Allows me to keep up with current events and happenings.
* BART QuickPlanner (http://www.bart.gov/stations/palmPlanner/overview.asp) - Does just what the title implies... gives the current schedule for the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system and complete trip planning abilities including a system map.
* DateBk5 (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com) - This program has been mentioned enough that if I said anymore I would just be beating on a dead horse.
* Interstate Guide (http://www.theheadwaters.com/IGP.html) - Complete exit guides for all Interstate highways in the US including amenities located at each exit like gas, food, lodging, even 24-hour ATMs.
* iSilo (http://www.isilo.com) - Great DOC reader. I use it for a lot of reference materials.
* Mapopolis (http://www.mapopolis.com) - Mapping software. I downloaded the street map for every county in the US. I don't know how I would get around without it.
* MathPad (no longer supported) - Great symbolic mathematics app. Can solve several complex problems.
* MegaCalc (http://www.megasoft2000.com/palm_division/megacalc.htm) - Great calculator replacement. So many features that I can't use them all.
* Kaplan toGo! (http://www.kaptest.com) - GRE Verbal Test Prep
* MobileDB (http://www.handmark.com/products/mobiledb) - Great program for storing lists
* Today (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=38922) - Nice little app for viewing upcoming engagments and other pending tasks.
And last but certainly not least...
* ZLauncher (http://www.zztechs.com/en/zlauncher/index.php4) - The launcher that really does everything a launcher should. I used to be a Facer loyalist but I came to realize that Facer is nothing more than the default launcher with a pretty interface and a "Today" screen.
Sorry for the extremely long post but I like to give reasons why I find these apps to be on my FAPs list.

off topic...
Hi there, I wanted to ask this question for a long time now. ..
I read somewhere in this site before of a program that takes the place of the password screen, where instead of entering letters or words as passwords, you click on pictures instead or parts of a big picture.
I tried to search for this, but cannot find it anymore.
Thanks

Newest "can't live without" app, PhoneMagic!
Being I look up contact phone numbers numerous times a day, this program makes both looking up contacts, as well as setting reminders to call people, a breeze!
Also just got MSDict to work, and so far, I really like it.

Thanks for recommendations on this board. I am new but just bought wordsmith and checkmoney after reading here. Now, I realize things can be easier when I am traveling.

I listed Docs to Go as one of my favorite apps. They just updated the premiun version from 5.04 to 6.0 and want me to pay $30 for the update. I paid $69.95 for the premium version 8 months ago. I think we as a group should start voicing outrage for ripoffs such as this.

I use MyBible by Laridian. Did you ever check it out? If so, how does it compare to the Bible program you are using (why did you choose that one)?
BTW - I love the Jesus image you use with your name. Where did you get it?

I wanted to, but I had to buy it before I could try it. I did not like that, since I have had bad experiences with that in the past. If I had only had a friend who owned the application then I could compare it. I can tell you that I really enjoy this a lot more than BibleReader+ (a good software that is being updated, but I think that they may be trying to do too much too soon). I had used BibleReader+ for over a year, but the GMPSoft's Bible With You is just so fast, easy to read, and easy to use.
I got the logo from some clip art that I own. It really has stuck me over and I really like the subtleness of the image, while it makes a strong point.

Do you have a link where I could purchase the clip art?

I really dont understand why people here are complaining about the upgrade cost of DocsToGo. Are the people at DataViz supposed to work for free? Do the people here who complain realize just how much work is involved in software creation and maintenance? Compared to the cost of an equivalent desktop app the cost is peanuts.
Anyway if 30 dollars is too much then you probably dont need it in the first place!
I dont know, maybe I'm missing something but to me DTG seems like a pretty good deal!

I think you are missing something here. I don't have the luxury of expensing this out to my department nor do I have the luxury a ton of extra money. I just bought the dang software 5 months ago and now I have to buy it all over again. I just want one functionality that I requested some ago and that QuickOffice has... a spell checker. Amazingly, D2G have managed to not allow any other 3rd party application the ability to check their documents... a nice trick if you want to only sell your product. I think a graded scale upgrade would be nice for those of us who haven't own D2G 5 very long or who only want one or 2 bits of functionality. I guess this is much the Microsoft mentality that pervades the industry today. We won't support you... until buy our new software at a large expense to you. I like the software, but I cannot afford these steep upgrade costs. Why not just let us upgrade one module if that is all we want or sell the additional functionality as an upgrade.
By the way, I use DateBK5 which cost me $25 and I have never had to pay for an upgrade. I do realize that when OS6 comes out, the developer will probably have an upgrade that I will have to pay for; however, there is one huge difference... his upgrade costs are reasonable. I am not going to have to practically buy it all over again.
This is just my 2 cents,
Robert

Act!
QuickOffice Premier
As was pointed out in this thead, HotSync is absolutely needed.
Also very important
Netfront/WebPro
AOL 3.1
Act! is, quite simply the best PIM/contact manager around on PC or Palm, particulary if you have customer or sales contacts to worry about. It is THE most popular PC sales contact database in the world for a reason.
Documents to Go could substite for QuickOffice. I've used both, and bought QuickOffice as it has better tabular support. QuickWord can also double as a reader for ebooks, though it isn't up to MobiPocket Pro, Qvadis, or Comico standards.
I am convinced that wireless is the happening thing. Thus a web browser. For the past few years, I've been stuck with AOL as a default e-mail address. It's convenient, and it would be too much of a pain to migrate again. Since it's mail is non-standard, the AOL Palm software is a requirement for me.
Gotta have some fun. I like Space Trader a lot, and it works fine from memory stick.
