Yes hello to all . I am new here and very ignorant on tech for PDA's.
I do not understand all of the memory stick stuff and tech stuff. Here's what
I think I know. The white memory sticks are more expensive than the blue one's. All I know is I want to be able to listen to my cd's in mp3 form( I guess) and not use the white memory sticks or the audio player that came with my clie.
In a nut shell what is the simplist way to put my cd's on my clie and use the blue memory cards. Please help. Thanks in adavance.
Mary

The SJ33 can only use 128MB cards and less. You put the 128KBPS 44khz .mp3 files in /Palm/MSAUDIO/

yes i have the 128 mb card but from my computer how do you download the music. I do not want to have to use the white memory cards.
Thanks

You put the MS in the Clie, and go to MS Import. Then it will show up on your PC, if you have the drivers.

OK let me start over. I have only the audioplayer on my clie it only reads the white memory card it says but I have been told that it can take the purple ones as well if you have a different way of playing them. I have been using my windows media player and a card reader to put it on my memory sticks but can't get it to play on my clie.
Thanks,
Mary

have you extracted your songs from your CDs on to your computer? and what format are they in? FLAC, MP3, WAV, etc. ?

i believe the audioplayer on your SJ33 will only play audio files (in MP3 format only) that have a constant bitrate. when you rip your CD (with whatever program like iTunes for example), be sure that you specify that the audio bitrate quality is lower than 320 kbps. if it's any higher (which i don't think is possible), the audioplayer will not play the music file.

also, what kinds of labels are on your memory stick(s). by labels, i mean things like "MagicGate", "Pro", "Pro DUO", and even the manufacturer's name such as "Sony", "Sandisk", etc.

I have the sonic stage down I can downlaod to the white sony magic gate memory stick. Which is all the audio player takes. I am having problems using the sony 128 mb memory stick and just changing my cd's into music I can listen too on my clie.
the white memory sticks are hard to find and I have a bunch of the other ones
Thanks,

Why not use iTunes to rip the songs and convert them to .mp3?

You can use regular Purple Memorysticks. The music files need to be .mp3 in 128kbps and 44khz. The folder is /Palm/MSAUDIO/ on the MemoryStick.

So then does it not require anything on the clie to play the memory stick?

No, nothing on the Clie.

So let me see if I have this straight.
I need to use itunes to transfer my cd's to mp3 and then convert them to my memory card. But I wasn't for use if itune would put them on the memory card or not.

i'm pretty sure that the SJ33 Audioplayer can take any type of Memory Stick. my friend has a SJ33 and he uses a purple coloured (the original type of Memory Stick) 128MB MS to store his music, and he uses the Audioplayer on the SJ33.

No, iTunes doesn't put them on your Memorystick.

Make sure your iTunes prefs window looks like that.

ok is there a difference in the blue, purple and white memory sticks?
Pls explain.
Thanks

OK, here goes:

- the purple memory sticks are the original (assuming you have only Sony memory sticks), and most basic type of memory stick. they have no special attributes to them
- the blue memory sticks are most likely another company's memory stick and can't use the same purple colour; or the blue means that it is a Memory Stick Pro, meaning that it has a higher storage capacity (256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB) and faster data read/write rate (but only noticable with a card reader)
- the white Memory Sticks are MagicGate Technology enabled, meaning that there is a type of protection for and from certain types of audio files (Sony's own ATRAC3 for example)

however, each company has a different colour for their memory sticks, so the colour of the stick may not have any relevance to the attributes i've listed above. the best way to tell what type of attributes your memory sticks have is to determine what type of memory stick you have (check the label on the memory stick itself) and Google them up.

don't think the SJ33 has Clie Files. I think it still had MSGate...
