View Full Version : SJ30 / SmartList To Go

I use SmartList to go profusely on an SJ30 and it recently has begun to hesitate when I select "Home" or have to scroll down from the Home position to a database title off screen. Also, if entering a letter to access a particular database, I get the same "hesitation". I have reloaded the software but no change.
I also noted that a soft reset temporarily corrects the problem but it soon returns.
Anyone have any idea as to cause or solutions?
Thanks in advance.

I am a heavy user of SmartList to Go also. I have written several of my own DB's. !Bill_Tracker and !Mileage_Minder are posted on Palmgear, with a total of over 1000 downloads between them. :-)
I currently have 28 databases loaded on my SJ20, and haven't seen any problems. I tried to duplicate what you described, to no avail. My system is just as snappy as ever.
Are you running any hacks which might be contributing to the problem? It doesn't seem likely that it would be caused by a particular DB, since it happens at the 'home' screen. When you open a DB, are you having the same hesitation problems moving between records? This is a real head-scratcher...

One more thought... do you have HiRes support (system preferences) enabled or disabled? It is un-checked on my system.

What version are you running? I have 2.602 on my SJ30 and I don't see the behaviour you're describing. I also use FastCPU and have SmartList set to run at 66mhz without any problem.
If your version is not current, you might try updating to the latest version. Otherwise, try visiting the SmartListToGo Yahoo group and see if someone else has seen this (the group has 1300+ members with 1500+ messages and is a great resource trapped in a crummy message/group system - Yahoo - but such is life... ;) )

I had hacks installed but I disabled them with no improvement. I also tried unchecking HiRez for SmartList but that did not help either. What I believe causes the conflict is ThinFontFix that was installed. I reset the Clie and did not reinstalled and so far I have not encountered the problem.
Did any of you who have had no problem have this software installed?
Thanks again.

Never had any problem with ThinFontFix and I am also a Smartlist user.

I have ThinFontFix installed, but I found that it caused problems if I enabled its a "Auto Fix after Reset." As long as I didn't check this option, everything worked fine. I have to remember to enable ThinFontFix after reset, but I don't mind doing that since it's what it takes to keep everything happy on my Clie.

I keep "Auto Fix after Reset" enabled. I use it on both a N series and a NR series though not a SL/J series.

Since you're already using hacks; I use Font Hack123. Maybe you should try that instead. Get the OS5 fonts for it.

You might want to try 2.603 - recently released.
I noticed it is slightly faster than 2.602.

Thanks for the tip! I just downloaded it. It does seem a little faster...

My problem continues. I do have the 2.603 and it does not help. From the comments I noticed I was running an older version of ThinFontFix so I loaded the newest version. So far I still have the problem and it does look like it is related to ThinFontFix (and maybe a combination of other things).

Once again; dump ThinFontFix and load FontHack123 with OS5 fonts.

That may or may not fix it. I tried FontHack123 and had problems...but I don't with FontFix (so long as I don't check auto fix).
Worth a try, but no guarantee it will fix the problem.

I use both on my NR with absolutely no problems. I agree with OS5 fonts. All the others I tried (some I liked much better) caused display problems with one app or another. I may try other fonts again, most of the apps and fonts that had display issues have been updated since the last time I experimented.
One thing about FontHack, apparently font selections aren't backedup, so after a hard reset and restore, it causes an soft reset loop until you disable hacks and re-configure FontHack. Not a big problem, as long as you know what causes it and what to do about it.

I don't have that problem with resets. Perhaps it is because I use BackupBuddy...
