View Full Version : T5 shortcut Q

In the thread "T5 and tomtom 5 power issue" Drak (a guest, so I can't PM him/her) mentioned the following shortcut for changing power settings:
Go into memos, create a new memo, enter the shortcut symbol, dot, and then 3.

Does anyone know what this does?
Thought I'd ask before I try it myself, just in case it's the T5's secret self-destruct code... ;)

Cheers,
Tim

Shortcut.3 sets the device to never auto power off. A soft reset will return the device to normal mode.

Thanks Ziggy. Anywhere to get a list of Palm shortcuts?

Thanks Ziggy. Anywhere to get a list of Palm shortcuts?

Here you go :). Found the list below ages ago on the web, but I don't remember where.

. 1 (and 2): sets the Palm into the debugging mode. This dot command is for programmers only. Return to normal mode by soft reset.

. 3: sets the Palm to never auto power off. Entering the command causes the words "no auto power off" to appear on the screen briefly. Return to normal mode by soft reset.

. 4: will briefly show the Palm user name and electronic serial number.

. 5: will delete the user name and hotsync log Very dangerous one, not recommend to try it

. 6: Show the Date/Time that your Palm Device was born.

. 7: toggle between more accurate battery gauges
(Alkaline/NiCad/Rechargeable Alkaline/NiMH). Probably only applies to devices with removable batteries.

. 8: Invert Backlight , for those Palm that has GrayScale , Black & White screen.

. 9: Show the Date/Time that your Palm Device was patched/update (last patched).

. K: will show "Kernel Counters available on DEBUG builds only" message on screen. Not sure for it purpose.

. S: which sets beaming to occur through the serial port instead of the IR port (used sometimes by developers). There is no on-screen confirmation. If you have set this inadvertently, hotsync will not occur because the Palm will insist that the serial port is already being used. To set things back to normal, enter the command again.

. T: sets the Palm to beam to itself. Just for loopback to test function of the IR port.

So basically .6 and . 9 are similar but may show different Date/Time if you were patched or update ROM of your palmOne device.

Cheers Ziggy!

Keep in mind that most of these were meant for developers' use. The only official documentation I can find on these is scattered through several Developers' documents.
. 1 (and 2): sets the Palm into the debugging mode. This dot command is for programmers only. Return to normal mode by soft reset.
Both of these open the serial port and leave it open. This can be a major battery drain.

. 5: will delete the user name and hotsync log Very dangerous one, not recommend to try it
This one can be useful if you wish to remain a device, without loosing any of the data current stored on it. Perform this shortcut, then Hotsync, when problem to select a Hotsync ID, say new and enter a new name. However, if one instead selects the old name of the device, one will end up with massive duplication. Every record that was in your PIM applications will be duplicated.

. 7: toggle between more accurate battery gauges
(Alkaline/NiCad/Rechargeable Alkaline/NiMH). Probably only applies to devices with removable batteries.
Yes, only useful for devices with removable batteries. All others will just display the one battery type they have permanently installed (e.g. Lithium Ion)

. 8: Invert Backlight , for those Palm that has GrayScale , Black & White screen.
Does nothing on color screen devices.

. K: will show "Kernel Counters available on DEBUG builds only" message on screen. Not sure for it purpose.
Hmm, I did not know about that one.

. T: sets the Palm to beam to itself. Just for loopback to test function of the IR port.
Useful to developers when testing/debugging their IR Send and Receive code.

. 6: Show the Date/Time that your Palm Device was born.

. 9: Show the Date/Time that your Palm Device was patched/update (last patched).

So basically .6 and . 9 are similar but may show different Date/Time if you were patched or update ROM of your palmOne device.
It is my understanding that .6 is the base Palm Source ROM date, and .9 is the Licensee modified ROM date.

And one more:.i Enables Beam receive for a short time.
Thus one can leave beam receive turned off in the preferences, and use this to turn it own momentarily when one needs.

Hmm, if one opens "Graffiti ShortCuts" on the Handheld, or "Graffiti ShortCuts.pdb" in a hex viewer, one can make out all of these shortcuts and those that one has defined in the short cut preference panel. However, on my LifeDrive I also see .r, .01, and .02 defined.

Do all these apply to all palm handhelds?

1 through 7, I am pretty sure were in Palm OS 1.0; I know they where in 2.0.

8, t, i, and s first showed up in Palm OS 3.1.

9 first showed up in Palm OS 4.1.

I have no knowledge on k, r, 01, or 02.
