View Full Version : Problem with T-665

I let my T-665 go without charing for 3-4 weeks. I put it in the cradle to charge it, but noticed that even in the cradle it would not power on - just a dead screen.
I tried soft and hard resets, and the unit would come on, but it would get to the "date screen" (where you input the correct date and time), but immediately a small dialog box would appear that said "Hold", and it would power off - unable to turn on again.
I left in in its cradle to charge overnight.
I then tried a warm reset, which seemed to work. When I Hot Synced I got all my programs back and was able to get to the main screen.
But when I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on again.
So I did another warm reset, got to the main screen, set the unit in the cradle and tapped the battery icon, which said "- - -". Even though it 'charged' overnight, perhaps it couldn't charge until I was able to get it running a bit.
Any hints or ideas would be appreciated!

Try doing a soft reset while its still in the cradle charging.

I did try placing it in the cradle and doing a soft reset (also did hard reset like that, as well as the warm reset that seemed to help).
Since when I tap on the battery icon at the top of the main screen, it says "- - -", should my main worry be about the battery?
A battery problem would seem strange, since these products sit for a long time in boxes waiting to be sold....
Anyway, it won't power on unless I do a reset. I can play with it, but when I turn it off it won't come back on.
Any other ideas?

Have a go at this app called GConsole (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=439AECA4-5261-4F8A-92639539559034BE&prodID=15185) . See whats your battery state is. But if your Clie is still under warranty, i suggest you get a replacement unit as it seems very likely your battery have failed.

The only time I have seen the small "hold" screen come up is when the hold button on the side is in the on position. This may seem too simple but has the hold button been accidently been left on?

Duh.
I actually called Sony Service (before I read your comment on the "hold" button).
That was the problem! When I got my Clie, I set it up, read through the manuals, and then over the months promply forgot about some of these things.
Kind of like a friend of mine (in his 40's) who went to his son's school library and looked all over for the 'card catalogs' before being told, "We do this by computer now."
Thank you so much for your kind help.

No problem Chessman. I'm just glad it wasn't anything serious that you had to send the unit back for. I got my 665 back a few months ago and just love it so far. It does everything I need and its with me all the time! Enjoy....

heh, i found out that the hard way too, now i use it on my friends as a little prank. I let them use it thentake it back with the hold button on, tell them they broke it. some strange reactions...i always tell them and they think it's really handy, it's like a fail-safe to not waste battery on accidentally turning it on...
