Anyone knows how and where can I find a PalmOS upgrade from my Palm IIIx?
I need PalmOS 3.5 or above.
Another thing I wanted to know is: if I'm upgrading the OS, and the power fails, do I lose my Palm or can I just start from the beggining?

According to Palm the highest upgrade you can do with a IIIx is 3.3. If you need 3.5 or higher, recommend you acquire another unit. Full information in palm knowledge library article 10714.

The article also says there is an update to version 4.1, but they don't sell it, and can't offer the download.
I found it on CD on some site, but I don't have an international credit card to purchase it, and even if I had, I don't know if they would send it to Brazil.

The Mobile Internet Kit should upgrade your Device to 3.5.
As it is fairly old, you should be able to get it via ebay or similar platforms.
Else you can consider getting a newer Device, the IIIx is not exactly a small Device :)

History: The Palm IIIx was released with Palm OS 3.1. Palm did make available a free download upgrade to take it to 3.3 (http://www.palm.com/us/support/33upgrade/). Later Palm sold the Mobile Internet Kit, which included an upgrade to Palm OS 3.5. Later Palm sold a newer version of the Mobile Internet Kit, which included an upgrade to Palm OS 4.1. Palm has since discontinued the Mobile Internet Kit.
Therefore, to upgrade past 3.3, one has to find someone who still has a copy of the Mobile Internet Kit.

http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=PALM+4.1+Upgrade). Hmm, after performing these searching, it looks like very few places have the 4.1 upgrade. Most of these are the 3.5 version.

I don't really care if it's version 3.5 or 4.1, all I want is to run Java on my palm, so I can use it to test any program I write while learning Java Micro Edition.
Getting a newer device is out of question. Not only I'm on a budget, it wouldn't be worth it, as I use my palm mostly to read documentation and e-books while I'm not in front of the computer.

Were you able to find an upgrade to 3.5 or 4.1? There is an upgrade to 3.5 for the Palm Vx: (http://www.palm.com/us/support/35upgrade/) Does anyone know if it would work with the IIIx? Presumably it doesn't work or Palm would have said so, but I'm curious as to why it doesn't work.

Does anyone know if it would work with the IIIx?
No it does not. That upgrade was meant only for some very early Vx's that where shipped with 3.1. Most Vx's where shipped with 3.5. When one attempts to use that upgrade, it tests to see what device it is being applied to. It refuses to install to anything other than a 3.1 Vx.
