Setting up IM on a Treo 650

I have a Treo 650, and would like to set it up for Instant Messaging, particularly with reference to the Network preferences ('Network', under 'Prefs')

Would some kind person please assist or at least point me in the right direction?

I've tried several different Instant Messenger programs, and I've decided that VeriChat is the best for me.... but I'm not sure what you mean by questions about network preferences.

I use Chat Anywhere. It works for me on both Treo 650 and Lifedrive.

Lifedrive connects MSM through my home network and Treo through the phone GPRS.
