[ ]f []f []f []f What is it?

Hi, just a question of interest to me and maybe others.
I found this file(?) in
CardTab /PALM/Programs/
(I have ZLauncher and TungstenE and 256SD Card) .

The file info is :
Name : [ ]f []f []f []f (close to this)
Creator ID : OZx©
Type : 0[],[] (close to this)
Created : Sept 6th 2001 (not by me)
Size : 0 B (zero)
Attributes : Nothing is ticked

I also have 2 other files (again on the CardTab) in another folder I created and I think these appeared when I moved the folder and contents from /PALM/Launcher to /PALM/ .
But I am not sure about this.

The 2 files info is :
Name: ______
Creator ID : - - - -
Type : - - - -
Created : Sept 6th 2001 (not by me)
Size : 0 B (zero)
Attributes : Nothing is ticked

Are these files necessary or have any use or are they just a "ghosts in the machine" ?
Should I delete them ?
If they are necessary can I hide them?
Where do they come from?
They don't seem to be a problem just take up space on the screen.

Thanks in advance woz of oz

I wouldn't touch them... ;)

I would hotsync the TE and copy SD contents to a PC. Next, I would delete what I don't like. Take a chance that is how we learn.

Question: Do you ''see" the same thing using the palm launcher and FileZ? The recommended action would not change, I am just curious.

If you are really worried and you think ZLauncher is the creator of this file, I could download a demo of ZLauncher qnd test it on my TE+SD setup.

Let us know how it turns out.

I second what depret said. Make a copy of the card (preferably using a card reader) to your PC. I'd then run a chkdsk/scandisk on the card (while in the card reader from your PC) and see if it's just lost files/clusters/etc. I sometimes see those files, usually before I lose a lot of others. (I'm guessing a corrupt FAT, but it's just a guess. Nonetheless, be careful.)

Hi, great suggestions and yes the files do show up in FileProg , FileZ and ZL File Manager.
The funny thing is the []f []f thing sits at the bottom when the list is A>Z, I thought those symbol types preceded A.
The following relates to the'______' files only. I have not touched the []f[]f[]f one as is has a creator name and I guess was created for a reason.

Anyway I don't own a Pc or CardReader and am travelling at the moment so I tried a 'bodgie' experiment. I transfered all the apps in the folder to my TE (start anew) I then transferred them to my emergency backup 64card but to a new differently named folder. After some app testing I could see no problems or difference and the files were not recreated, so I put them back on the original card in a new, different name folder and tested the apps again, no problems. These unknown files were not recreated so I decided they were unimportant and deleted them, this was a few days ago and so far all is good (famous last words).
Thinking on it I wonder (and I am Pc/Palm ignorant) if these could have been created thus. I have in the past done dumb things like try to copy/move a file to the folder it is already in only to get a message which translates as 'keep your mind on what you are doing'. Could these be the residue of that action? No need to answer just a thought.
Anyway alls well that ends well, so far.
One of the reasons I enjoy this type of website is to read other people's heuristic endeavours. It is how we learn.
Thanks for all and all the best for you, woz of oz
