Hi,
bought a used T3 last month - I am about to update OS from v5.2.1 to latest version plus update the Bluetooth Connection to include partner's phone. Have noticed the Hand Unit believes it has OS v3.1.1 installed on it which doesn't allow this. Have tried to find confirmation on both Hand Unit and Desktop that OS is indeed v3.1.1 but am unable to do so. Also am unable to find if OS v5.2.1 is in fact installed on either Hand Unit or Desktop (or any internet references to this specific problem).
Can anyone help in identifying exact version of OS on Hand Unit and Desktop?
If it is in fact OS v3.1.1 can anyone point me to where I can get copy of OS v5.2.1 (is it on Installation CD - I can't find it there?)
I assume trying to install the update to OS v5.2.1 over top of OS v3.1.1 would give me no joy?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
regards Kevin
PS - have noticed couple of bugs in operation of Hand Unit but not sure if these are related to OS version

Erm, I beleive that you:
Did install an old OS patch from your/an old handheld. This then pushes down the OS version. All T3's natively run OS 5.2.1, os § or $ would not be able to survive on the box bcause of the different CPU architectures! A hard reet should fix your problem, and then, delete the uodate file in the backup folder on your PC!

You might be looking at the wrong number. In the INFO screen, you will see the OS version. If you look at the INFO screen, and under that the APPLICATIONS LAUNCHER has a lower version number which is what you most likely are seeing.
You also could be looking at the ABOUT screen from the launcher, and that doesnt show the OS version, only the launcher version number.
Just a note, v3.1.1 doesnt support color. So you wouldnt be looking at a color PDA ;)

thanks for response Antoine, I rechecked and sadly it says OS Version 3.1.1 (I am more than capable of misreading and jumping to a wrong conclusion - my missus will quite rightly tell you I do it all the time - just unfortunately not this time). But your comment about colour has reassured me because whatever the OS claimed on the PDA it can't be so as I have colour. Thanks

Hi Tam Hanna,
I did in fact install several patches so this may well be the case. I'll be away from home for the next 2 days so will give the hard reset a try when I get back. Not qhite sure what the Mac equivalent of Back Up folder is (partner has i-Book) but I'll track the patches down and delete them before the hot sync
Many thanks - will let you know how it goes

Exact steps on how to check the version of Palm OS on your device:
From the default Applications launcher:
Perform menu 'App', 'Info...'
In the 'Info' dialog box:
Tap the 'Version' tap area at the bottom on the window.
The OS version will be displayed near the top of the window.
----------
Hmm, is it possible that you installed the upd311.prc file onto your device? This would appear in the info dialog box, near the bottom as a "Update 3.1.1" entry.
Opps, I just tried to simulate this by installing it on a Palm OS Simulator. These minor update patches are not suppose to activate if they are installed on the incorrect OS version, however when I installed it onto a Tungsten|E Simulator it did activate, and when I checked the OS version, as given above, it did display 3.1.1. Assuming this is what has happened, to get rid of it:
Perform a firm-reset:
Push and hold the 'Up' button.
Push and release the Reset button.
When the Palm OS splash screen appears, you may release the 'Up' button.
Delete the 'Update' file.
From the default application's launcher perform a menu 'App', 'Delete...'.
Scroll down to the entry 'Update 3.1.1' and select it.
Press the 'Delete' button.
Press the 'OK' button in the confirmation dialog box.
Perform a normal soft-reset.
Without holding down any other buttons, press and release the reset button.
