View Full Version : Where are the NX Users

I have not seen any NX user anywhere.
(sigh) it would be cool to know at least one.

I live in Los Angeles, Any angelinos here?

I mostly get people asking me what it is,
and to explain it i just tell them its a computer with a
camera, camcorder, music player (apperantly, not
many people know what MP3 is), and internet.

What kind of questions do you guys get asked?

I'm an NX60 user. I recently lost my NR and replaced it with the NX. I live in Long Beach and work up in Hollywood. You are not alone :)

I've got a Palm speech pretty much memorized. I can't take my NX70V out to take a pic without someone asking what it is. I've pretty much gotten to where I can anticipate the questions as well. It can be tedious... but anything to spread the word!

What's funny is in most of my videos I take, you can hear the people around me asking me things about the NX while I'm trying to record something. I was recording my friend's dog and you can hear him asking "Hey, does that thing have a flash on it? How much memory do you have?". It's funny.

I havn't seen any other NX users, but I have come across a few people who know what it is! That always makes me smile.

Another Nx60 user here. I live in Pasadena and work in downtown LA.

I'm getting more "wow! that's a very cool pda" nowadays rather than, the "what's that?" I used to get. Clie is definitely catching on in L.A.

I just became a NX user, and I love my Clie! I love having the big screen, and this upcoming weekend I plan on loading down my Clie with programs and eBooks. Unfortunately with my wacked work schedule, I don't have any time really during the week to do much with my Clie. I work a 12 to 9PM PST shift, Monday through Friday.

Anywho, I haven't seen any other NX users either. I have seen other Clie users where I work, with the popular models being the SJ and SL series. In fact, I'm known around work as being "Gadget Conscious," and everyone comes asking me for help. Everyone knows how often I upgrade, and they've grown use to the fact.

That would be very cool!

I use mine to keep my sanity at the Univeristy of Oregon.

Whenever I take it out to do something, my co-workers or nearby students will ask me what it is and get the usual OOhhs and Ahhhs! ;)

Here in the Inland Empire with my brand new, fresh out the box Nx70V. Just got most of my NR70V (gave to the wife) stuff I wanted transfered and am calling it a night. Pretty nice upgrade. Of course I could have waited for "the next one" but not sure what it's going to be and this will work for the next year (?? before I upgrade. Any tips to an old NR user would be appreciated.

While I:
a) Don't have an NX (plan to have TG soon enough)
b) Don't live in the LA area (I'm a Vancouverite)

I have owned now two seperate devices (Visor Neo and a Treo 90) and I can honestly say I've never seen anyone with either device. I've seen a lot of m1xxs and a couple m5xxs, a couple PPCs and an older Clie or 2....but I've never seen someone with a Visor, a Treo 90 (seen a 180) or a newer clie (Like an NR, NX, or TG50)...bugs me...but then I realize that I go to my local sony store and find out that they are again sold out of NXs and TGs...where are they all going??

Live in OC (honestly - its an unincorporated tract) about 15 min from Disneyland, work in Pasadena.

If you want to see other NX owners, come along to the LA Palm User Group meeting on Saturday (details at www.naxera.com/lapug). Sony will be along this week, showing off some new toys as well.

You know what dissapointed me. I saw this guy with the NR70.
He was the first person I've seen with a Palm Powered PDA. I
told him: "Oh cool you have a clie, what do you have in it?" and
he was just ignoring me! so i showed him my NX70 and told him,
maybe we can share things." and he avoided the question.
That really sucks.

I Hope that the same thing won't happen if i meet any of you
guys.

By the way, I think its hot when you see a girl with a PDA

are there any girls with the NX in L.A.?

Interesting story:

I store my Resume, and anything that a job application might ask,
on my NX, including some questions. As I was filling out an applcation, I poped out my NX . As i was copying things from my NX the interviewer came to me and started asking me
what it was, so i took this opportunity to show him and tell him
what it was. It was really cool, He seemed to like me, the interview went very well, However I did not get a call back :(
LOL

Oh well, do you guys have any interesting stories

(By the way, I'm still out of a job, can a fellow cliesource bro. help me out, I'm a recent grad with a BSEET, its tough out there and im desperate)

Haven't seen anyone else with one. Nobody even notices until I open it up and swivel the scrieen around to do my shopping or write a note. Then they go nuts.

What kind is it? Bet that cost a fortune etc.

I was a Visor Prism user until I could swing this NX70V. My wife couldn't understand the fascination with the color screen until she received my Visor Prism. Now she's hooked on color, too. Of course, she didn't see the need for the Palm until I gave her my old Visor Platinum. Now she wouldn't live without one.

Any other Texans around?

Well, I guess I'm the first user from Mexico to post here (I'm in Monterrey). I've got my NX70V last november (upgrading from a m505). One more guy from work has the same NX, but I have never seen anybody else around with one of these.

It is not that common to see people walking around with PDA's around here in Mexico anyway - even when I rarely go out without mine. At work (I work at a tech company) at least half of the people have a PDA. Let's see... I've seen there a Zire, a Palm IIIC, a Tungsten, a Jornada, a couple of Ipaq's and a Palm Vx.

BTW, I'm also a nut for uncommon equipment. :) My first PDA was a Clear-case Palm IIIe which was issued as a special edition or something (it even came in a cool looking semi-transparent box) and I also have a Sony cybershot camera (currently a 717, and used to have a 505v, they are those 'L' shaped cameras). Never seen anyone with any of those things anywhere...

Spitfire, 800 Euro for an NX70? Woow... that's expensive. They are selling it for under 600 Euro in Germany now. And that already includes our 16% VAT!!!

I haven't seen any NR70/NX70 on the streets or in the cafes over here yet. Of course except my own Clie, which I see quite frequently... ;)

It is great to be able to capture pictures, movies and sounds unnoticed... but it is difficult to go unnoticed when you are having an NX70 in your hand and you are the only one who owns such a cutie...

I often see many people here in Hong Kong using their NX and sees many travellers using their NXs inside the aircraft as well, not such a big surprise being caugh using one here, close to like having a mobile phone.:D
But I do agree that a stranger comes by once in a while questioning you just what you have in your hand there? Especially when I'm using my NX in places other than that of HK.

Michael1960,
Yes incredible. I bought my NX70 in the US whilest travelling as it was only $599 (2 months ago) . I had been watching the prices in Ireland and the UK but decided that it was better value to purchase in the US .
Am very happy with my purchase . The 'Wow!!!' factor from friends and workmates is incredible .

michael1960
04-11-2003, 05:47 AM
Eddy, yes, I am quite sure that the NX70 is a much more common view in High tech places like HK or S'pore. I remember seeing people with all kind of "foldable" devices in Singapore. I was also surprised to see so many of them sitting on a bench and talking to themselves, until I noticed the headsets... ;)

Spitfire, it's really unfair what we have to pay for the latest gadgets here in Europe. End of April I will be in Japan and have a close look at what's new. The prizes are really tempting there, especially with the given exchange rates. What a pity that my Japanese is too bad, so I cannot use a Japanese PalmOS. :(

Hannover eh? Hamburg eh? man...the memories...in 2000 I went to Germany for Expo 2000....LOVED IT!!!! I miss it SOO much!!!. We flew into Berlin, spent a couple days touring it (nowhere near enough time) then we took a train to Hildesheim (sic?) where we stayed while we attended the Expo every day for like 5 days...after that we took a train up to Hamburg for a few days of sight-seeing before coming back to Canada. Of all the countries I've been to (US, England, France, Italy, etc.) I think Germany was my favorite...still is :D can't wait to return (hopefully with my TG50 in hand)

I'm in Singapore. Most of the colleagues in my dept are using one or another PalmOS based devices. I've recently helped "convince" another colleague to buy a NX :) so the current PDAs count in my dept (of 20 ppl) are :-

1 PSION
1 iPaq
1 Tungsten
1 Palm V
1 Palm M505
2 Palm Vx
2 Clie N7xx
2 Clie NR
2 Clie NX

I'm also known to change my PALMs quite frequently (compared to others in my dept) so I've also become the unofficial "support guy" for PALM based problems. :p

Outside of my company, I've not seen another using NX though alot of M515s and CLIE SJ/Ts.

To tantousha, great to hear you like Germany, although your message is embarrassing me a bit because you came all the way from Canada to visit the EXPO and I never made it, although it's just 200 km from Hamburg. ;)

Hey, given the speed with which SONY invents new products, if you want to visit Germany hopefully with my TG50 in hand it probably means you have to come here very soon. Otherwise you might visit Germany with your Clie NZ2003 with built in GPS, TV and hairdryer. :)

To KongK, that's really a nice place you are living! I've been to S'pore several times and love that place. Probably the best food in the world and one of the fastest changing places I've ever seen. KongK, SimLim lost a bit of it's attraction recently. I remember that you could buy Windows Office 2000 for about 10 US$ there a few years ago. Of course I would never buy those CDs, but they looked pretty original. ;)

But well, SimLim is still a great place for all kind of computer and video hardware and I usually finish my visits there with a walk through the "Bazaar" in Bugis Street.

Speaking of "Bugis", they have a SonyStyle shop there but I couldn't find any Clies. :(

Had to jump in, I am an older female person in San Diego, CA. The closest person I know with a Clie is the guy I sold my NR70 to after I bought my NX70.

How many of you babies had a Newton. My first hand held was a Casio, with a keyboard much like the Clie, which was one reason I bought the Clie, I loved that keyboard. After the Casio:

Sharp model of Newton
Newton
Palm Pilot
Palm V
Palm IIIc
Clie NR70
And now NX70

Loved them all in their time and am sure will love the next latest and greatest. Though I will skip the NZ.

"you must be rich", "how much was that.....Oooooo", "it does WHAT?", "can I?", etc. First thing the guys say about the built in camera is "You sly dog, you...." But, I use it mostly for work in insurance claims - Mapopolis, damage photos, recorded statements, expense reports, etc. This thing just is too cool...

Ooooh, I forgot to mention that I was buying a lamp for my home office and while there, I took my NZ out and took photos of other lamps I liked to show around and get opinions. The sales person started following me around and finally asked me what it was and does it do this and that...i think i may have talked him into getting one! it's so handy to have a camera with you everywhere!

What I fail to understand, is why (a lot of) you people don't use the Location field in your profile to identify where you're from. I sometimes enjoy the obscure, mysterious, and sometimes vagary text that gets put there, but think many of us would appreciate more of us using the field for what it was intended....

(Oh, that includes those of you who just leave it blank too.)
