When you sell an item, can you state that its modded or modified in any way? Someone told me that if you did that, ebay might revoke your membership.

I just found the information here (http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/policies.html) on eBay.
As long as your item is not illegal/does not encourage illegal activity and does not potentially infringe any copyright or trademark laws, you should be fine.
If you're still a hair worried, you're better off not listing it.

Hmmm. Interesting question. I would think listing it and NOT indicating it was modded would be cause for concern. Intent is to accurately describe the item, and not to misrepresent. If in doubt, cover yourself with a disclaimer. ie "item being sold as is".
And, don't show that battery mod :) Only MacGuyver would buy it !

Let's see, hmm. You could charge more for it, and just say you did some mods to it in the description... ;)

Thanks for your replies. John, I'm thinking about selling it with all my mods. (MS Mod, Eb40 Batt mod, speaker wire extension).
I'm still thinking about it.

I don't think I would. It is a one-of-a-kind unit ;)
Speaker wire extension?

Yea...

I'm selling it because of the one-of-a-kind characteristic. I'm hoping to make a lot of money off of it. If I do, I might be able to get another handheld and another UX. I won't have my battery mod anymore but at least I will be able to support the UX forum still.

Ok, so it won't break
I would expect it to sell for $500 ;)

That's what I'm hoping for. Maybe even more ;) I'll let you all know if or when I put it on ebay.

If the possibility of a pre-modded UX with extended battery had been available to me a few months ago, I would have seriously considered selling mine and buying a successfully, pre-modded device.
JAmerican - I suspect the best market for your UX is an existing UX owner as we know what is possible and can understand the success of your mods. Someone green to the UX is unlikely to understand what it is that you have achieved...

Write "modified as follows: ...", and not "modded". To the non-technical low-wage people tolling at eBay, "modded" reads the same as "mod chip".

monkeyboy, I'll also consider what you said as well. I'm gonna still sell it on ebay just so that those who don't visit this forum but want a shot at a UX can get one.

i'm sorry, 'low-wage" means that you're 'non-technical'?

IMO, I think any thing advertised as "modified" would be of concern. For those folks (ie your target market), they want a unit that is as much as "like new" as possible. Hearing it has been "modified" suggests it was "broken" at one time, and has been pieced back together....
People who would appreciate the modifications would be those people who know the abilities, and the limitations, of this device.
Now, I could be wrong, but eBay would have the final say...

Well, have seen several auctions on ebay before where the sellers described their products as "customized" or "improved." They did things like put larger hard drives in their mp3 players and such, or customized their mp3 players by changing the lcd color or adding other functions to their mp3 players. I'd say go with that description; say that you improved your ux by making more user friendly and better equipped for long usage. Sometimes things won't sell for as much because the sellers don't describe them very well, but if you set up the auction right, I'm sure it would go for more. Some suggestions would be to post a link to this forum so that the buyers can see that these modifications were successful. Also, for things like the battery mod, show some of the battery result tables. If the buyer can see what he or she is getting and can see that its worth while, then I'm sure the auction will go for a lot. Good luck if you decide to sell it on ebay.

i'm sorry, 'low-wage" means that you're 'non-technical'?
"Tall blonde Swede" doesn't imply that all tall people are blonde, nor that all blondes are Swedes.
"low-wage non-technical people" means low-wage(non-technical(people)).
"Tal", "blonde", "low-wage" and "non-technical" are qualifying adjectives. In many other languages, the form of the adjective changes what it points to, but English has but one form, and must use conjunctions (like "or") or relative pronouns (like "who") if adjectives aren't meant to qualify everything that follows.
Am I correct in assuming that English is not your native language?

I would also point out the original limitations of the "virgin" UX, i.e. appalling battery life ;)

Don't worry, I'm staying. There is nothing out there better than the UX, except for the HTC Universal, but its not available to me in America so...

Then say bye-bye to your keyboard, you sinner! :) Just kidding, the screen on the VZ-90's are gorgeous, but I think I might get the Palm TX, wifi plus bluetooth, and a landscape plus portrait screen is nice. Battery life definitely beats the UX-50 also, although I think I would sell me Zire 71 to get it.
