I am an owner of a Clie NX80 - I feel the need to say that this is the best PIM I have ever owned, I have had it for over two years and still have seen nothing that can replace it. Clam shell, Large Screen, Pictures and Movies, Size, Ergonomics it has it all. Well . . . except for processor : ( which brings me to the point of my post.
The Clie VZ90.
I have been reading all of the wonderful posts here and I understand that you have to apply some CliePet Fix's to change portions of the OS to English, but there are several points that are still fuzzy to me. I hope some kind soul can help me out.
Will I be able to use Graffiti in English? I have JOT - will installing that allow me to use an English character set?
Will installing English applications, specifically Agendus, run in English?
I don't use Palm Desktop (or what ever the Palm Pim software is called) I use Chapura, will I still be able to use that to Sync to Outlook?
I do a lot of reading on my Clie - it's nice to read in bed without having to have a light on - I'd hate to find out that ebook reader didn't work.
A while back , I futzed with converting movies for use on the Clie. It showed promise, but there were a lot of "gyrations" to go through to get a movie into a format that the Clie would understand. Does the Vz90 have better tools for converting Video for viewing?
Thanks to all for any responses

hi!
1. The VZ has full english graffiti support (you can write in the Japanese characters or in latin characters)
2. Yes, all english apps will run in english, just as they would on any normal Palm device.
3. i assume so, but i've never used Chapura.
4. Yep, that will all work. And due to the amazing screen of the VZ, i think you'll really love reading ebooks on the device.
5. There are a few great guides floating around here and at brighthand.
regards, tyler

Hi KjBleau,
I also am aN NX-80 and VZ-90 owner.
I second everything Sharkk717 said.
My VZ is the only thing I'll watch movies and TV on. My NX is strictly business since I need a camera once in a while.
I purchased SONY's Image Convertor 2.1 to use in addition to Image Convertor 1.5 which ame with the NX.
Read CliePet's movie page for the VZ and load his FMP player in addition to the English and RotVZ routine. Also read my thread on movie sizing in this forum.
You are in for a treat visually. This device still has the ultimate WOW factor even from the current PPC crowd. They still have multimedia issues that SONY overcame years ago.
Have a great year, let us know if you have questions.
Oh yeah, if the VZ is in Japanese Graffiti, hit the last (4th) button in the graffiti area above the Home and Menu icons. It will switch to alpha characters (English)

Hiya ^.^/. Also curious bout the firmness of the touch screen. Is it spongy soft like the UX or glass firm like the TH? Also with the decuma, how does that work? Like the UX? Or does it lay like TH because I don't like the UX style decuma and rather have the TH style. You know the UX has the decuma screen and have a very lil reading screen of what is being input.

Welcome to 1src!
They already answered all your questions, but having owned a NX80 in my past, I am looking forward to a VZ90. Me, you, and hope are going to get one :D

Hey LupeValenz,
I haven't used a UX, but I have used a TH. The VZ is identical to the TH firmness. I do use a protector which adds slight softness. (The TH had the same protector)
In normal VZ mode (landscape), the Graffiti area comes in from the right side much like the UX; HOWEVER, using CliePet's RotVZ, you can rotate portrait and be identical to the TH! Neat huh?
The VZ screen brightness appears much bigger than a UX!

The firmness of the UX screen and NX screen are about the same... ;)

I also owned a NX80... LOL not!.
Just kidding. A lot of you guys are going from NX80 to VZ90. Interesting. Nice.
I'm thinking about the TX due to its similarities with the TH and the main reason I never got a TH is due to BT. Now that TX exist, I might try out a non-keyboard device. I still like having the two-device setup (PDA/Phone). Still not sure yet, but thinking long and hard about it.

I love having 2 devices as well. I also couldn't give up my keyboard. I needed a new phone too. Ended up getting TH/E, couldn't give up bluetooth either, and getting a treo which had a keyboard I enjoyed. Still use both daily. I was wondering what is a list of apps or required fixes needed and from whom. I really don't want to look around everywhere and I'm sure others would enjoy a concise list in 1 place. Thanks guys.

I would appreciate a list as well. I'm hoping to get VZ90 from a friend in Japan, so I have been reading as many threads as possible. Thanks for all your help.

Who?
The prices on the VZ90 in Japan have really come down. Less than $450 USD? (http://www.winkdigital.com/wink/product6382_1.html)
Lupe, I hope you can get a little lower than what they are offering at i-cube.com

I know but just saying that there will always be places selling VZ :D if need be will get it from i-cube ^.^
Aww, that's true.:)
I never considered the VZ90 until lately. I love my TH55. I'm finding I'm viewing movies and reading more on my pda so if a VZ90 comes my way, I going for it. The VZ threads/posters/forum have been a big help.

I know I asked this before and I haven't really gotten an answer. I don't use graffiti, I hate it, but I love decuma. Will the portrait app for the UX work and if so, does the decuma come up portrait like in the TH, or will it come up Landscape like in the UX *which I hate because you have one set of the screen for the graffiti, nother set for decuma, and small screen for the text input your puttin in*. My lil thumbs are achin a bit from all the typing on thumboards so now I want to go back to stylus input and thinking of a VZ or finding a TH again.
