Hello all ...
I installed Zlauncher Silver, XP, I like it and it's all fine. However, after this I can no longer access my Addressbook and Calendar! When I moved it with TealMover to my Card and ran it from there, it wrote, that Jackflash or Jacksprat (I can't remember) has removed this file. I found it on RAM, but am not able to run it!
Please help! I don't NEED those exact apps, I only need a working Addressbook and Calendar that would synchronise with the original Clie - Palm Desktop Software on my WinXP!
Thanx a bunch!
Tom

Well, Datebk5 is the best calendar/todo program--outstanding features and power while retaining look and feel compatibility with the built-in datebook. It has a generous 45-day trial period and outstanding support. For an address book, I use PopUp Names, which is a hack. Other use Super Names, AddressPro, TealPhone, Phone Mate, and others. Lots of good ones out there to try before you buy.
That said, you should be able to run the built-in Datebook and Address from RAM or the card. I saved the built-ins on my card just in case. Something else must be going on.
JackSprat will remove the built-ins either by deleting them from ROM or by moving them to RAM. Once moved to RAM, most can be moved to the card. JackSprat leaves stubs in ROM to ensure the built-in Hotsync conduits still function. That's from where your error message is coming. It sounds like you may have deleted the built-ins rather than moving them to RAM.

Ha!
Never use jacksprat... It really does more harm then good.

I use JackSprat without a problem. You just have to be careful with it. I have a primer for it on my website.
Thanks to Tanker Bob's primer on JS/JF. I was able to reuse 1.5 MB FlashROM for storing more useful apps. JS will insist you to have ROM backup in PC via HotSync or in MS. I have both. If you mess up you can always restore the OEM ROM back.

Thanks for your kind words. Of course, the primer is only a supplement to the JS/JF manuals, not meant as a replacement for them.

Hello all ...
Well ... the funny thing is I didn't DO anything with jacksprat. I bought the CLie secondhand and removed jacksprat and jackflash from the memory. When I hardreseted the Clie ... Addressbook was already not visible.
I found it in RAM though and transfered it to Card, but I can't run it from there ...
BTW ... does anyone know a good app for composing MIDI tunes? Or ANY tunes that sound better, then just beeping?!?
And what do apps with Todo Plus or Todo something mean? Todo means everything in spanish, but I don't know, if that helps?!? :-) And Tealauto? What does THAT do?
Thanx a lot!

Tom,
I hope you copied the apps out of ROM before deleting JackFlash. If you bought it second-hand, the seller should have given you the original ROM images. MIDI tunes also should have come on the device, but also should have come back when you hard reset. Built-in programs that have been deleted from ROM do not come back after a hard reset.
Todos are things that you need to accomplish, things "to do". We use it as a checklist so we don't forget to do what needs to be done.
Tealauto is a database program that tracks information for your automobile.
If you still want to use the OEM DateBook and AddressBook apps and you don't have the ROM backup files, you could ask Brayder for help in getting a ROM backup. Another option is, since it sounds like you still have them in your card, I would try to move them back to RAM and use JackFlash to move them back to FlashROM and then use JackSafe to restore the apps' ability to be launched after a hard reset. The reason you need to run JackSafe afterwards is because those apps that are moved by JackFlash to FlashROM may not be recognized ("visible") by Palm OS after a hard reset until you run JackFlash again. JackSafe will add a patch file where you don't need to run JackFlash.
As far as a better alarm sound, I use GeekSounds (http://palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=03C08A86-27C3-4F5D-B53D1A00925D90FA&prodID=8549). Give it a whirl and see if you like it.
Good luck.
P.S. I deleted some duplication post as I just realized that Tanker Bob already answered them.

Thanx guys for all the valuable information!
I'll keep it in mind and will let you know how I progressed using your recommendations! :-)
BTW ... is it possible to have viruses on your Clie? I diownload quite a few apps as a try out and then delete them ... what if some app is a virus?
Thanx
Tom

There are only three known "viruses" in Palm OS. They aren't real viruses since they cannot replicate themselves on a standalone system. One is the Liberty Crack, which I haven't seen in years. The other two are even rarer. Steer clear of warez and you will likely never see any malicious code on your handheld. Also, if you use a good anti-virus utility on your desktop, they will protect you from the three Palm OS viruses as well.
