Dave Seperson, Product Specialist, and Chris Gulliver, Product Manager for Sony Electronics PDA Division will be Speaking, Demonstrating and Answering your questions about Sony''s line of Palm OS PDA products. The meeting will start at: 10:30 am on Saturday April 12th in the Music Department at Border''s Books at 1360 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. For more Location information, check out the LAPUG website at http://www.naxera.com/lapug/

Due to the number of people expected to be in attendance, please submit your question IN ADVANCE (dreamlnd@pacbell.net) so that Mr. Seperson and Mr. Gulliver can answer as many questions as possible with the most current and correct answers. Hey, on the Sony OS 5 devices, are Palm and Sony using the same hi-res APIs now? Or are they still different?

Last month we had Kyocera to the meeting, and a 7135 was given away. We have Palm presenting to us regularly and they generaly give away some nice schwag (hi Dianne), and have had Handspring along as well.

We have even crossed to the darkside and had T-Mobile presenting the Thera and Sidekick devices.

Rusty is looking for questions in advance, so that Sony can come prepared.

There have been hints that depending on how many show up, there will be a very cool give away for someone :)

The PalmOS5 Clies support both APIs now. Unfortunately, they don't support the CD-quality Streaming Sound API that is part of PalmOS5.

Streaming Sound as in like off the internet? Or just a sound API for the locally stored stuff? Man, I hope the Palm OS dosen't get any more fragmented.

I guess technically the Sony devices are set for about anything, if they can do both hi-res APIs.

Locally played sounds, so yes, this is a bad form of fragmentation, especially since Sony won't release the documentation to their equiv. API (I've heard rumor that they'll release it under NDA, but given the fact that none of the non-Sony audio players work on the NX, I doubt that this is true).

The only way I see this that this could be beneficial to the consumers is that they're planning on doing away with their custom API and switch to the standard API, and if they don't document the custom API, they have no need to continue supporting it. However, I can't say that this is the reason, as there are reasons for Sony themselves to like it this way.
