I have a treo 600 which I love...but I have run into a huge problem. The screendoesn't accept my touch. What I mean is I was play freejong on it for days, and then I couldn't choose the correct tiles. Well, I reset it, and it worked better. Then I was playing a texas holdem game and I couldn't bet...It wasn't letting me touch the right amount or button. Now the screen barely notices a touch. I just downloaded this diet program, and it isn't letting me input anything because I have to touch the area to put the numbers, and it just isn't accepting it...is this a hardware or software? Is there a way to fix it without doing a complete restore? And if I have to do the restore, how do I save programs on there without having to reinstall everything. Sorry abouot the third degree..but it has been a progessive problem and has finally driven me mad. :-)

You could try re-calibrating the screen digitizer from the Prefs application. It's hard to say whether it's a hardware or software problem. If after a soft reset it functions normally for a while, then it could be a hardware problem.
If you hotsync your Treo prior to doing a hard reset, everything should be restored the next time that you hotsync. Another option is to use a program to backup your Treo to an SD card, and then restore from there. I'd recommended that type of backup as a requirement, because you'll never know when you'll need the backup. I ran into a situation where I had to do a hard reset and restore everything when I wasn't near my PC.

Hello Ensomniac,
This is Kevin from Palm. If recalibrating the screen does not appear to resolve the issue, there are a couple of other things you might try. Do you use an adhesive screen protector? A screen protector which is trapped under the screen edge may interfere with touchscreen calibration. Occasionally, just having the screen protector on the screen can cause the issue. Try removing the screen protector.
You may have debris trapped under the edge of the screen. Use the corner of a piece of thin, stiff paper (copier paper works well) to very gently slide all around the edge of the screen. Don't let the corner of the paper travel more than an eighth of an inch under the screen edge frame. By doing this, you may be able to dislodge small particles of debris trapped under the frame.
Hope that helps.
Sincerely
Kevin

Thank you for your responses. I tried cleaning the screen...and I tried deleting a few programs...and I was having the same issue...and then I saw a program that I had installed, but rarley used and deleted it...and the problem cleared up right away. it was the sim city that I downloaded for my clie, but then put on my treo. well, now it works fine. So it was software. I do thank you for your time in answering my questions though.

Just picked up my Treo 650 and found the screen COMPLETELY insensitive to touch. I couldn't do anything with it! I was freaking out about possibly having to replace my Treo, then decided to search the forums here. Found this very helpful answer from Kevin, which solved the problem. I had absentmindely run my nail along the bottom edge of the screen, thus stuffing my screen protector under the edge. Whew! :o
1src (and Kevin) rocks! :D
