I have been trying to buy a replacement flip cover so that I can try to cut out a window so that the screen is visable when it it closed. I know this serves no real purpose but since I like to tinker.... Anyway, I called the service department at Sony and tried to explain that I burned the cover with a lit cigarette (smoking is bad!) and was looking to find a replacement. Unfortunatly they did not have a replacement for sale. They were willing to exchange the whole thing which I thought was nice but I declined. I then calles Sonystyle and they did not have the part in their database but told me that since it was still new that they might have the part in the future. I will probably move on to the next best Clie by then anyway but who knows. If anyone has had any luck getting this please let me know.

Hmm...sounds like sony's service department is very kind to replace!

Hey how about try to remove your cover, and call them that your mum thought the removed cover is useless and throw that away already, and want an replacement.....you might end up having a new TG + an extra cover......

(I didn't encourage you to tell lies....just if your mum ever throw that away....you know...and then somehow you found the cover from the bin after you get the replacement......) :D

I thought about telling them that my dog ate the flip cover but I figured that would sound too manufactured! ;)

Ready for this one???

You dropped it on the street, the cover separated from the body and fell down a storm drain...

Lie! Lie! Lie!

I'm working on cutting a window in my NX70V's flip cover. :D

Should I slice through the keyboard+main motherboard or cut through the digitizer and LCD?

I really like the TG and your window will be a killer mod if you can ever get a hold of the cover. Good luck plessdude! I can't wait to see your outcome.

LCD...love the clock thingamajig on the M-series palms...map the clock app to the [RECORD] button and you are all there...

What would be the point of a window to the keyboard? (really asking the questions, not being a sarcastic lout...)

MikeRiegel, I am going to put that one at first....but the i thought if you drop it on the ground, then there should be some scratch on the main body itself....got flaws in the "event"

OcellNuri, I don't know the best way to do it...maybe cut the screen into half, that makes the mod much easier... :D

@ MikeRiegel

I was just going to cut out the area above the LCD not the keyboard.

@ OcellNuri

Cut through the LCD...I mean hey its 480 x 320 so missing a little screen area will be hardly noticable:)

I just got another idea about the mod, how about make another hinge on the cover, so that it can flip over to the bottom of the TG? that would make it not so "James T. Kirk communicator" feel...

Not necessary for the credible alibi...I have already dropped mine and had the cover skitter off like a roach in the light of day...

Astonishingly enough, no marks on the TG, though it was the tile floor in my kitchen, as opposed to a concrate sidewalk (which claimed the life of the white surround of my NR camera button, but I don't want to get off-topic...).

The TG is surviving Life With Mikey (and please refer to my Gadgeteer articles for more info) pretty well...naked, no less...

...not that I want to get off on any kind of rant...

The ironic part is that I was the one being sarcastic. If you look at the NX series... you will see that the clamshell shape makes the screen the flip cover. Or the keyboard is the flip cover, depending on how you look at it. I was just poking fun. :D

I did actually see a mod to the TG flip cover on an Asian website that had the keyboard area cut off, and left only the protector covering the screen. I think it had a window in it too... I'd rather have the whole cover with a window just over the screen. IF I actually had a TG that is...

OcellNuri:
A link would be nice...love the kaizo thing...

wilsonch_98:
Actually, the degree of flip is about 30 off of my replica TOS communuicator (no, wait, it's....my...dog's~! Yeah, my dog is a serious trekker, I don't mess with that...yeah..) now all we need is a mod for the TG to come on with the cover opening...like that pop-stylus-on mod I saw way back, and have the startup sound be the be-be-beep...

Then my dog (not me, of course) could have long and meaningful conversations with the Enterprise...

I was looking for a link but I can't find it anywhere. I'll search harder in a few.. I've got some lab papers and a stomach that need attention. ;)

LOL...

I have always been thinking, they might have design it with the light of StarTrek(TM).

Now some Dilithium to power the clie would be nice, then we don't need to charge at all!!

Ah, my young friend down under...

My dog informs me that dylithium merely harnasses and focuses the matter/antimatter reaction, but does not create the power itself...

I think my dog needs to get a life, no???

Maybe they can make the flip up tricorders from the new Enterprise series and adapt them to the TG...but the flip is always a nice punctuation mark...

now, if you cut it out, would you replace it with a plexiglass screen so you could still protect the screen from scratches and the like?

Either Plexiglass or Lexan. Obviously I am going to have some serious scratching when the TG is in my pocket so I think I might use Lexan.

Maybe you could grab up an old treo-90 flip cover and use the plastic window out of that...course i remember mine got quite scratched up quite quickly :-/
