I just want say this becose me and I suppose that many others have noticed that palmgear.com drips quite much on sama kind of apps.

Best example could be puzzle games. We are drowning to these puzzle games. See yourself : http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.answernew&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&keyword=puzzle . Also one example about puzzle games is Sudoku becose many developers have been made the same game! Any sense my buddys??

So I'm just saying that before new developer starts new project would check what kind of apps there are already. It is just soo ridiculous if we have hunderds of same type of games or even ten same kind of apps. Another example is bowling games. Those are also welled up in palmgear. Also there aren't any sense to develope new mp3 player if the new one will not be better than the old ones. One example is Bebopper MP3 Player which aren't even half so good as pocket tunes deluxe.

I ain't programmer and I understand that it can be hard to develope but still developers could use own imagination more and develope more own kind of games not copys of other games! Good example is Bike of die game. Becose it did quite much suprise all becose when it did come there weren't any ideas that we could never have such as game. And we did all get this feeling "wow!, this is cool" so that kind of feeling we should always get.

It saves also time and specially money becose I don't just thing that someone will buy same kind of money organizer software. About that good examples are MobiSystems Money and Splashmoney which are both so much same kind of apps that I wonder who can't decide which to get.

I also recommend to porting different softwares from other platforms. Example ppc Tcpmp palm os port was and still is great. Though if I'm right you can't sell ported game to forward but I have feeling that many could appreciate porting very much.

Sorry my poor english and complaining but I suppose that all did get my point. But any comments or something?

I quite agree, but the thing is that programmers like to program, and most of them don't really care whether someone else created the same thing before...

Well, in another way to think about it. It is good to create something simple like a puzzle games before the real games or apps. Thing is just that usually they will continue developing puzzle games in the end of their career. That kinda stinks. Because of course we are excepting better and better programs for our palms and sonys.

PS. was time to bring this thread to alive :D after thousands of months....

I agree one hundred percent. The only application I've repeated that has a lot of predecessors and is really pointless is TXTR, and that only being for experience. All the projects I've embarked upon are either a free version of a commercial app or a brand new one (such as FlagQuest). When you get into system programming for palm it is quite easy to come up with new ideas.

Although I agree, let's not forget that competition is good for consumers.

Um, I was here thinking that next step is listing apps which doesn't exist for palm os or are lacking. Sounds good plan? If yes good for you but if no bad for you. Sorry :D

Ohkay, I have just in this minute any huge list in my mind but I have searched last weeks a good video poker game so that will be defnitely in the list. And some others:

Real video poker
Why? There is Deluxewares Video poker but is lacking on options, high scores list etc. Though it has profile options and very high end graphics but I don't think that is enough. Also, there is Croker called "video poker" game but it isn't still real video poker.

Memory improving games
Why? There are some memory games like very good free memory game called Memorix but it is lacking on several different types of memory games and it doesn't support sony hires+ or card decs on memory card.

Jetman jack kind of games
Why? There isn't lots of Jetman jack kind of games and in my opinion Jetman jack is quite limited in word or guns and limited resolution support.

Dice games
Why? As I have lately got interested on all kind of dice games like SmarkBox's Farkle I have noticed that palm os is lacking on dice games. There aren't really any expect Frakle. Others are more kind of crap in the space.

3d racing and rally games
Why? I don't really know should I even say why because this is so obivous that palm os does have very limited and bad collection of good 3d one person shooter or racing games.

There was some...

How about the Karaoke version of palm? It would be great to read the words to a song, and playing the song at the same time.

This karaoke idea sounds quite interesting idea but still it would maybe too hard to read the words from the screen? At least when palm's doesn't have anykind of video out lines so this might be problem. Though if the text were big enough. There should be btw one music player for palm os which reads lyrics on the fly from the song it plays. Quite cool idea.

Um, I had something in my mind but I don't remeber all of them but one of them was some kind of new Worms/Snails game. I don't know how happy people are with PDAmill snails but I aren't that much, because I think it needs some big improving like more weapons and more gameplay options. It is now very fun but could be even better with some kind of extra options and weapons.

There was some...

NapalmRacing (racing, freebie), ZdoomZ (port of original doom, freebie), Master Theif 3D (1stPS, commercial), or try an emulator (little John PalmOS, freebie)
:D

:DYou must be kidding? Napalmracing and master thief are almost even from the most bad 3d games for palm. LJP is however very good rom player. But have you ever played on psp? That kind of games we should have on our palms too. Maybe not exactly same kind because palms aren't gaming devices but still. I think this isn't just possible because we are out of programmers :(

I agree with OP almost completely.
Just one thing I want to add is that sometimes there are applications out there that are not that good i.e. lacking features or buggy,...etc -- So I think creating better apps of the same kind is definitely a good idea.

3D first person shooters? Well, there are more than enough.
I will only list the ports as I don't care about the rest :-)
ZDoomZ, ZHexen, ZHeretic, ZQuake, Duke3D, ZHexen2, maybe ZQuake2 later

PSP??? PSP??? Have you realized that that is a gmae machine? have you realized that the Palm is a Business machine? We're doing the best we can dangit!!!

Now that my rant is over, those are about the best it gets for awhile. Check out the stuff MV liseted. It's all pretty good if you're into nostalgia.

The Palm API is worthless to game devvers. If you've ever looked at the docs, they are _NOT_ designed to be graphics intensive.
