I just recieved a beta (it's open, just request it) of the OS5 compatable version of BackupBuddy VFS! WOOO HOOOO!!

(I was beginning to think it wasn't EVER going to happen....)

I'll post back here regarding how it works, etc. as soon as I try it. It's hotsyncing now!

I didn't see any beta notice on their site, but sent a note to support - how did you get it?

I've backed up and restored from the old one. Didn't know there was a problem..

I know the old one was slow as heck, but it worked for me.

Been using the old (non OS5?) version since November with no problems... Don't see how the new version will change my life much, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Cheers, Rich

For me it's a day late and a dollar short. I found that BBVFS wasn't all that reliable on my NR so I didn't even install it on my NX.
It wouldn't restore some of the more invilved apps such as ePocrates.
BackupMan, on the other hand, is lightning fast and fully restores even ePocrates! It even powers itself off immediately after a scheduled backup, if you wish ;) I've even found that support, which was always great when Dr. Hinds himself was running the company, has become indifferent, at best. There have been precious few upgrades to "InstallBuddy" which needs a major overhaul, and BackupBuddy, which certainly could use some modernizing. They seem to be just concentrating on WordSmith.

I agree. I tossed out my investment in BBvfs and the desktop app and purchase BackupMan. The rolling backups and speed is well worth it.

Does anyone use MS Backup? It seems to do the job. Please tell me if Backup Buddy offers features that MS Backup doesn't. I appreciate your advice.

MSBackup does a very good job, but it's major limitation is that it doesn't handle automated backups, which for most people are essential for having a reliable backup.

It is a nice safety net for me knowing that every day I have a backup which can take me back to 6:00 am that very day. I have restored a couple of times (remember that first AIM app?) and have had no issues with BBVFS not restoring completely.

Actually, I'm doing it for a number of apps that I've registered that are not yet useable on OS5. I HATE wasting money. You know? ;) (Especially considering how much money I've already spent on Palm software . . . )

And rldunn, I did load BackupMan (due to your previous evangelism) and it IS very nice, but . . .

Hmmm, Backupman and Insaniquarium are not playing nice on my NZ90.

I'm using MSBackup now, and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that restores really worked . .. as mentioned by others, the main reason for switching to BB is automation.
As a registered BB user, I'll give it a try first before going to BackupMan though I agree with Alan's comments on support/advancement of BlueNomad product line. It has all been downhill since the name change . . .

I think Backupman is incompatible with PowerRun. It may have something to do with the symbols used in the shortcut filenames, but I'm still testing that theory.

(Thus the previous post about Insaniquarium, which I have stored on a MS via PowerRun).

I have plenty of apps with PowerRun shortcuts, and BackupMan handles them just fine. I don't have Insaniquarium, so maybe there's something specific about that app. But it's not a general PowerRun conflict.

I have no problems with BackUpMan and PowerRun.

Hmmm, I'll continue to investigate. Thanks for giving me the info.
