View Full Version : Would you recommend me to buy mNotes?
I use Lotus Notes mail at work and need a program to sync mails to NR70V.
I use Agendus for calendar, to-dos and address book, so no need to sync those. I only need to sync my mails.
I tried out the evaluation copy of Cadenze mNotes, and it seems to work ok. On the other hand, as far as I understand, it doesn't support attachments, plus it's expensive.
I've read the comments on other similar threads, but I still can't make up my mind :(
Please help!! Would you recommend that I buy mNotes or should I try something else?
Thanks :)

Though I cant answer your question, both SnapperMail (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=439AECA4-5261-4F8A-92639539559034BE&prodID=44646) and Iambic Mail (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=439AECA4-5261-4F8A-92639539559034BE&prodID=11040) have full support of mail attachments.
Thanks for the info :D
I'll check out the specifications for SnapperMail and Iambic Mail both. As a great fan of Agendus, I think I'd prefer Iambic Mail, but I couldn't find out whether or not it works with Lotus Notes mail, yet. I guess I need to do some more research...
By the way, great Avatar!!

Timely post! I'm looking at software to sync with Notes also, but actually only care about the calendar portion and not mail.
For what it's worth: I've had some problems with Intellisync. It won't work for me now that I'm using Lotus Notes 6.0. I just finished my evaluation of AvantGo Pylon and have been very happy with that product. I actually tried downloading mNotes today but had some problems on their site.
Unfortunately, they're all rather expensive. Plus, it seems that they make you purchase expensive upgrades to stay current.
It would be great if you could try Pylon (http://avantgo.com/products/businesses/workforce/productivity/pylon/pylon_conduit.html) and compare it to mNotes. I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts.

Hi there!
Intellisync doesn't work for me either. I still have some 10 days left on my free evaluation key of mNotes. I will use it a bit longer to check out the features I didn't use before. I must mention one thing though: mNotes staff provide excellent support!!
Once I finish my evaluation of mNotes, I will try Pylon and let you know and I'd be happy to hear what you think of mNotes.

Installed mNotes: some initial thoughts:
mNotes config resides on the PDA. While this makes it easy to make changes (i.e., you don't have to open Notes), it takes up precious memory. In contrast, Pylon config is nicely integrated w/i Notes itself.
I rec'd errors using mNotes because there was already data on my PDA (this wasn't an issue for Pylon). It said to try a slow replication. I did that, but it's still not sync'ing my calendar or address book. I'll have to try different settings.
mNotes installs an mServer/Cadenza monitor app and I don't understand it's purpose. When I sync, it attempts to connect to the Internet (according to ZoneAlarm Pro which alerts me each time). This bugs me because I don't know why it would need to do anything but access my local replica.
Pylon was about an 8MB download compared to about 15MB with mNotes.
mNotes adds a lot of "crap" to calendar notes. Pylon is nice and clean.
I've decided to go with Pylon.
Well congratulations! I wish I could make up my mind as easily as you did...
For me, everything was much easier because I had no previous data on my pda, and I turned off the options to sync eveything but the mails. The main thing that does bug me is the fact that you can't use the soft graffiti area and that it does not support attachments. They say a later model will do the latter and in that case, it may be a better idea to wait until it's released because there was some talk about upgrades being quite expensive.
After all, I think I also may decide to go with the better of Pylon or Iambic Mail (if it works with LN)

Just an update, mNotes has a beta for handling attachments and advanced folder options. I just installed the trial of the basic version today. Thought I'd try that before a beta. mNotes did install cleanly, and I was able to slow sync my todo's and appointments with no problem.

Docs2go can sync attachments as well. It stores attachments on your PC in a folder.

I just bought DocstoGo Premium ($19.95 upgrade offer) and am very happy with the way it syncs with Notes and offers support for Microsoft Office-type and picture attachments. I've even sent Notes mail through my Clie. So far (about two weeks) it's been more stable than Intellisync or EasySync (IBM's product). Best $20 I've spent on my Clie in some time.
Thanks for the updates and the additional info!
Following the suggestions on this forum, I tried out Iambic mail and it doesn't seem to work with LNotes (at least, it doesn't work with the version that I use). I then tried Pylon, and I agree with hherbzilla on the fact that it is nice and clean. I didn't buy it yet, though, so I guess I'll try DocstoGo as well because now I am curious :)
At this rate, I'll never get to settle on one product unless they stop making new stuff and I have finally tested them all...

Keep in mind that Docs2Go only syncs mail, not calendar items or to-do items. That doesn't bother me; I got bit hard enough and long enough by both EasySync and Intellisync that I just copy and paste into the Palm Desktop. But it may affect some people's choice of a sync tool

I've been trialing mNotes for about a week, and I like it. I really hated the double entry of appointments before, and this seems to work seamlessly. Price is in line with other options. So if you want full sync to notes (calendar, mail, ToDo) then I suggest mNotes. If mail is the only issue I would probably go with Docs2Go.

I use Lotus EasySync pro (http://www.lotus.com/products/easysyncpro.nsf) to sync my notes data and workspace with my Cli'e.
I DON'T sync my address book since notes is screwing up my hebrew recordes.

If you want FULL sync, I'd suggest Pylon over mNotes... but both offer free trials, so try them out and see what works best for you. As I said somewhere above, Pylon seems to be a much cleaner install and the integration with Notes is very nice.

I am using the 3.0.3. release of mNotes from www.CommonTime.com and it does both attachments and subfolders on my new Clie, so I am very happy with it and am not looking back.
Most important of all I can now safely use my calendar on the Palm without messing up the repeaters, e.g. when I edit one instance of a repeating calendar entry on the Clie I am still OK in Notes - this has been a huge problem with all other sync software I have tried. I can also accept a meeting invitation on the Clie and it updates my calendar!

I just installed Pylon and it is easy to use, but I don't like the spartan Mail program interface it uses on the Clie. Do any of these programs actually sync with Clie Mail?
