if they are in flash (rom) then you will need JackSprat (when it comes out)... if they are in ram, then look for an old program called rsrcedit.... there is an old version that can change the readonly bit....
I hope you are an expert, you can really mess yourself up with that tool...

hi,
first at all, the applications or DB I'm talking about are in the RAM.
I tried the rsrcedit, and according with it, they are not read only, but the clie files complain they are copy protected and therefore, can't be move or deleted.

The OS apparently has them locked then. You may be able to delete them by doing a warm reset and deleting them that way.
Ok, very simple, you have to delete the application before it's loaded into the operating system. Once it's loaded, the operating system protects itself from crashing by locking the application.
By using the warm reset, it allows you to prevent the application from loading into the operating system. This way, it can be deleted without crashing the Clie.
You can do a warm reset, which is done by holding the page Up button while pushing in the reset button on the backside of the Clie with the pin from inside your stylus. This won't load anything so there will be no Virtual Graffiti area either. Hit Ctrl-H on the keyboard, go to the Clie Files(file manager), then you can delete the desired application. Afterwards, you then need to do a regular reset by using the little pin from inside your stylus to push the reset button in the backside of your Clie.

I assume you mean on the MS...
I came across this also. The only way I found to do it was to:
1. start up the MSImport Utility while cradle/PC connected, which starts up a shared drive on the PC end and then
2. go onto the PC and browse into the MS share, and find the read only file, choose the "Properties" of the file on the PC,
3. and click off the "Read Only" property... which also saves it to the memory stick and lets you then control the deletion from the Clie.
You could also delete it directly instead of adjusting the read-only property I guess, but I wanted to just make sure I could delete it later from the Clie when I was off the cradle...
Hope this helps.

Ah. Just noticed your comment regarding the files being in ram.... ok, one other possibility - I've found that FileZ will adjust read/write/copy protect properties that other utils (including ClieFiles) will not. Try that, hopefully that'll work... if not it's the reset option I guess ...
[edited to remove reference to hard reset]

No-no-no!!!!
If the files are locked, use the warm reset procedure that I had posted previously!

re: Hard Reset ... Seems my mind is on other things today ... well, work actually. I misread your suggestion to warm reset as the more severe kind.... [sigh]. Apologies....
