Hello. I'm new in this forum. I have a problem that I need some palm experts to help me out.

I have a one-year old Palm T/E. It was running fine all along. Today, it seems to become mute. There was totally no system sound at all. I have checked Prefs->Sounds&Alerts->SystemSound. It was at 'Medium'. I tried "High', but still no sound.

Even all the games were soundless(though the game settings were not muted). Same thing goes for the TCPMP player (which was running well before this).

Any help?

Perhaps something loose inside.

But it was still running well last night. I don't remember dropping neither.

Is it possible to check for this loose connection? FYI, I'm not a computer geek :(

By no sound, are you saying no sound on the speakers? Or no sound even if you put on the headphones? Or both?

Also try doing a soft reset and see if anything changes.

Try doing a hard reset (which wipes out the Palm back to its factory settings) but make sure you back up all your files before doing so.

Immediately after doing the hard reset (don't do the hotsync or you'll reload everything back), try to test whether you can get the sound to work (speakers and headphones).

If after the hard reset and no sound, it's a hardware problem and not software related. That means, getting someone to open it up and fix it.

I think I found the problem. There were no sound from the built-in handheld speaker. But when I plugged in external speaker, the normal system sound is audible.

So, I guess it most probably due to connection problem. Am I right? Is there a solution for this connection problem?

Hi wuvs,
I found a few threads over at Brighthand (http://www.brighthand.com) that discuss this problem. Here is one thread (http://discussion.brighthand.com/palmhandhelds/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79484&highlight=audio+jack) about the Tl3 audio jack.
There other threads that mention the TlE and Tl5 with the same problem. Just do a search for "audio jack".
Sometimes the problem can be fixed by inserting and removing the headphone plug many times. But in other cases the audio jack needs to be resoldered.
I had this problem with my Tl3 a month or so ago but I sent it back to Palm for repairs as it was still under warranty.
Hope this helps,
John
