My FontSmoother for displaying smooth (antialiased) fonts on hi-res OS 5 PDAs has been significantly updated to work much more reliably with the TX. As always you can use it by itself to have the same smooth font in all apps for which it's activated or to have a different one in different apps via Fonts4OS5/FontSubst/FontHackV. I added a neat feature for NVFS devices to compensate for instabilities in Fonts4OS5: you can use Fonts4OS5 to set the fonts for different apps, then deactivate Fonts4OS5, and FontSmoother will still use the options Fonts4OS5 has set, but without the instabilities introduced by Fonts4OS5.

Thanks Alex! This is great news. I have been holding back on getting a TX until the FontSmoother/Fonts4OS5 issue was resolved. I use this combo on my TE for reading eBooks, and it simply can't be beat. The "premium" font packs available from eReader are pathetic in comparison with what can achieved using FontSmoother. FontSmoother is one of the few programs that I view as a "must have". Yippee. :-)

Alex,

I just downlaoded and purchased Fontsmoother 1.50. So far it looks great (my first expereince with this software).

I have found one glitch, however.

When I go to VersaMail on my TX and go to Options, then Preferences, there are some problems displaying the fonts. The highlighted item (e.g. "Display" doesn't display well). If I select a category (such as "Deletion") and go back to the main Preferences page, I get some unintended text at the top of the page.

It isn't really that big of a deal; I just thought it might be an easy fix and that you would want to know.

Thanks for the report!

When I go to VersaMail on my TX and go to Options, then Preferences, there are some problems displaying the fonts. The highlighted item (e.g. "Display" doesn't display well).

The limitations section of readme.html says: "Occasionally, smooth font texts will not look good when highlighted."

There is really no reliable cure--I can fix it in some contexts, but there will always be other contexts where the fix won't work. The problem is that the app is just not designed for antialiased fonts. The same problem would occur with PalmOS 6 which has antialiased fonts.

If I select a category (such as "Deletion") and go back to the main Preferences page, I get some unintended text at the top of the page.

I can't duplicate this. Which font are you using? Try using Utopia 18 italbold (that's what I use most of the time).

I treid this with Utopia and Charter fonts.

If i go to Versa mail, select options, then preferences then deletion, then click OK, on the top of the page I get the partial sentence next to "Prefereces" "pty Mail from Trash."

If I go to "Connections" I get he partial sentence "connectpy to: Trash."

Sorry, the problem I had with Versa Mail was not a result of Fontsmoother. I just noticed it coincidentally at the same time I installed Fontsmoother.

I will do more research before I post problems in the future.

Alex, thanks for your good product, support, and I hope I didn't waste too much of your time.
