Hi everyone, just upgrading from my wonderful and fabulous 615C. How do I transfer all my stuff over??? I tried nameing the handheld the same (like I did with my last upgrade, but I am finding that the OS4 and OS5 don't really like one another!!! So now I have 2 problems...Both handhelds are named the same, AND I can't seem to transfer all my stuff from old maid to my new hottie!
Any help would be appreciated. My thanks ahead of time

OK...fixed the whole same name thing (hard reset on the new machine seeing as how it is still pretty empty). BUT I see there is no "Docs to go"!!! And that there was a thread on it. It isn't on my cd either (rats!!!)
Any Data transfer help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to use the same name on both Clies, you're going to have to use separate computers. I've also upgraded from a T615 to a TG50, so you're in the same boat that I was in.

Here's what I did to transfer all the datebook, phone numbers, memos, and to do lists:

1. Uninstall the Palm desktop software from the T615. This should leave a directory with the data from your T615.

2. Install the Palm desktop software from the TG50 CD to a new directory (I have the T615 stuff under "ClieT615" and installed the TG50 software to "ClieTG50"). Sync the TG50 and create your same user name on the TG50.

3. Open up the old Clie user data (from "ClieT615"). Copy the "address", "datebook", "memopad", and "todo" folders.

4. Open up the new Clie user data (from "ClieTG50"). Note that the user data folder name should be the same as in the old Clie folder. Paste the folders from the old user data, and allow the folders to be overwritten.

5. Sync the TG50 and all the data should be on there.

Note -- when I did this I copied and pasted the data from the old to the new in case there was some kind of error. By copy and pasting, the old data is untouched and still there if you screw things up. I suppose you could "move" the folders over, but you run the risk of losing the data if, for some reason, things get messed up.

For your apps, first check the websites for each app to see if they have a newer version which is designed for OS5. If so, download and install that. If not, you should install them one by one to the TG50 and make sure that each one works as you transfer them.

I'm upgrading from my T615C to the TG50. Unfortunately I didn't see this thread and the others (in particular the detailed instructions by rldunn) about upgrading from an OS4 Clie to an OS5 Clie :-(

So after I installed the Clie apps from the TG50 CD, I went ahead and pressed the hotsync button. After the hotsync, I was asked to reset the TG50. Well it locked up after the reset. To recover, I had to do a hard reset (soft reset did not work). My guess is that the hotsync transferred over a bunch of OS4 apps (including FastCPU) and the TG50 just choked on these.

So my question now is what's the best course for recovery? Will I still be able to save my old T615C user data to another directory as suggested here and then reinstall the TG50 Palm desktop and hotsync again? Or is my data from my 615C hosed?

I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer here.

I installed docs to go from my old 615 CD. Works perfectly.
