My battery was no longer holding a charge so I ordered a new one. I swapped the battery out and now my screen does not work. When it starts up you can see everything and hear everything but when it asks you to tap the screen to continue...nothing happens... I have tried a soft reset and a hard reset. I am thinking something knocked loose when I changed the battery? All I did was slide out the old battery and slide in the new one... Anyone with any ideas or suggestions, please help me...
Thanks, Jami

It's possible you pulled the 4-track flat flexible cable (ffc) that connects the digitiser to the mainboard from its socket. It's the orangey strip closest to the cell bay opening. You'll need to dismantle the Clie to reseat the cable. :(

See post #6 here for cell replacement trickery:

And this thread for a brief strip/rebuild list, posts #3 and #13 in particular.

Yap. I found that 4-track skinny ribbon cable, at the bottom of the attached picture, can be easily tangled and pulled out of connector when you insert new battery in.

So, if someone wants to change his battery, I understand it's best to take apart the back cover completely....

Then, do we have to unplug all those ribbon cables, or is it possible to just slide the battery under? ... In other words, is the battery somewhat glued to the ribbon cables?

I'm awaiting a replacement for my th55 and I'm a bit nervous about the oncoming "surgery"

No need to be nervous. Just sync/backup to MS, remove the door and pull the cell. If you use a strip of paper to keep the cell from catching on the ffcs (see 1st link above) you'll be fine. ;)

My problem was when I pulled the battery out initially. It seemed to stick on the tape. My guess is the old battery swelled up for some reasons and pressed against the tape. So, surgery it went.

Oops. It does happen, though, the swelling. Can you imagine the swapping-out of faulty cells for an entire production run of devices? In a freezing warehouse in the winter? In devices that don't feature user-replaceable cells? Been there, done than... ;)

Thanks everyone, I ended up sending it to Sony and they fixed it for me. YEAH, I was lost without my Clie.
