According to IGN at their new Nintendo Revolution channel (http://revolution.ign.com), Nintendo's Revolution will not come even close to the competition in graphical power.
Their news from "anonymous developers" has been that the Revolution's power is only about as good as a "souped-up Xbox". There will apparently only be 128MB of RAM, maybe less.
While this has caused the message boards on IGN to erupt into a chorus of "OMFG Nintendo is teh suX0rs", there is hope for a graphically powerful Revolution yet. The final specs of the Revolution's GPU were apparently not yet revealed to the developers in question, and could be Nintendo's trump card in the graphics race. Also, these developers are supposedly working with GameCube-based development kits, and early development kits are never as powerful as the final product. (The early Xbox 360 dev kits were little more than souped-up Xboxes as well)
Also, Nintendo fans know that graphics aren't everything, and even the developers in the article said that it is the controller that makes the Revolution great.
What are your thoughts?

Nintendo does need to stay with the times. They think that just because they have been around so long, they can use old technology. They need to beat the competition. Which is hard because they don't have much money... :(

"Old technology," ye be smoking something. :p Well I have news for you, the X360 doesn't look much better than a XBox, and it's using last years technology with a GPU that's basically a X800 and a proc that's about the same as a P3 1.2.
AND DID YOU FORGET ABOUT THE CONTROLLER?? There's nothing old about that. It is truly the most innovative/revolutionary thing to happen to games and I look forward to getting some exercise next year. :D
NOT MUCH MONEY!!! WTF!!!! Nintendo makes a profit even on the GameCube. They didn't make as much as last year, but they still made a profit. Microsoft lost 4 billion on the Xbox BTW. They have yet to be profitable in the console arena. Maybe if they actually wanted to make a good game machine and not a media-center that's only purpose is to tax our living rooms, they would turn a profit in this area.
And speaking of old, or should I say lesser technology that's kicking-arse over something that's tecnically superior, you must have forgotten about the Nintendo DS, which is creaming the PSP in all markets. :) Nintendo is not hurting. They rejuvinated the completely dead video game market in the eighties by offering something new, and are currently the only company that's really interested in making a good game system, that once again can offer something new.
They're a multi-billion dollar corporation that's profitable. They don't need to be number one in all areas. Apple's not, and you know from first hand experience they're doing well and make some of the best computers. Nintendo shares many similarities with them. :)
If the Revolution is twice as fast as a GC, than it will only be slightly behind a X360, and it will definately have something in great abundance that neither the PS3, nor X360 can provide, and that's a new experience.
Even if the Revolution's video chips ships with 128 megs of RAM, that's more than enough to drive todays average lo-rez HD screens. I'm using an Apple HD 30" on my G5 and it displays at 2560x1600, which easily trumps a 1080 HD screen and I only have a 256 MEG video card. A 9650 with a 128 megs of ram can also drive it.
My friend has been saying that Nintendo wanted the Revolution to be as easy as possible to develop for and that if you could develop a GC game, than you could make a Revolution game.
All I care about is quality-fun-games and this is something the Xbox doesn't have for the most part, so I will not be buying an overheating-X360 that really doesn't offer anything new. The GC IMO has some of the best games, like Metroid Prime and most peeps swear by RE4 and even stated it looked better than any other game available for the last gen-consoles.
If the Revolution is even remotely as much fun as my DS, than Nintendo could easily dominate the market once again. They're not taking the uber-tech route this time, which they don't need to do, they're taking an approach that can easilly disrupt the current trend of the same.

There are new "revelations". I'm sure there must be a mistake though. 3MB of RAM for the video card?!?!?!
Now I'm not an expert in this field, nor do I claim to be. But that just sounds like it sucks.
Now I know that Nintendo will have better games, and I will buy the Revolution no matter what. But this will make games nearly impossible to port from the other systems. No matter what Nintendo may say, Revolution is competing with Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Stupid though they may be for doing this, people will look at the Revolution's graphics and see how Xbox and Playstation are better. (yes, they are better) and they will go for the one that looks pretty.
Sure, here at 1src will all know better, but most consumers will go for the pretty one. Kids will want to have bragging rights over their friends. I remember when I was an uninformed youth arguing how the Nintendo 64 had better graphics than the Playstation. I wanted the Nintendo 64 solely because it had better graphics.
If Nintendo can't get sales, they will die. Nintendo wants to expand their target audience, but they can't forget their core audience, the preteen-teen gamer. These rich suburbanite kids have parents that will get them whatever console they want for Christmas, even if it does cost $400. If Nintendo doesn't do something to keep these gamers in the fold, they will fail. Many of them don't know much about the Revolution, only that it's weak, doesn't do HD (whatever that is) and has a wand for a controller. They don't know about the revolutionary features of the Revolution controller, and they think it will suck. Nintendo needs to market to this segment as well as to new segments.

I am 14, and all about half of friends say they will buy a Revolution. (15 kids, 8th Grade). But if they hear these rumors, about how the Graphics suck, they will not get it! ;)

I'm sure they won't suck. The Gamecube didn't suck, it was comparable to the Xbox.
To double the CPU and GPU's power would make great improvements, but it just wouldn't look as good as an Xbox 360 does in hi-def. However, it may even look as good as a 360 if both were played in standard definition.
Tell your friends to make decisions based on what games look fun, not what games look prettier. We need to spread the word about the Revolution. Tell them what the controller really does, that's it's not just a remote control. Tell them about the downloadable games. Tell them about the free online gaming.
We need a generation of gamers that knows that graphics aren't everything.

They actually like the controller. Guess I didn't have to do anything there... ;)

FOR THE LOVE OF MICKEY MOUSE, THE GRAPHICS WILL NOT SUCK!!!
The Cube has 3 total, so they must be smoking something, the Revolution probably has 4. :D
Wait and see. The X360 does "not" look marginally better than a XBox, and even on a HD it looks muddy compared to what can be done with a beefed up PC, so Nintendo doesn't need to go to far wtih this new system. The only system I see that still has a chance of offering a substantial upgrade is the PS3, but then again it's not as powerfull as a high-end PC, and they demoed their BS on a PC, so I doubt it willl deliver as they promised, which they always tend to do. The PS1 was supposedly this monster of a game machine, but in reality could only handle a fraction of what was promised. Both the PS2 and XBox were supposed be HD ready, this was complete BS.
And if graphics were the end all, the PSP would have decimated the DS when it came out earlier this year, but fortuanly peeps relized gameplay was more important. Nintendo would be content with 3rd or second. They've always had a good business plan, so graphic hype is not enough to push them out. MS seems to be targetin the getto crowd and peeps that really can't afford their console. Nintendo on the other hand is doing quite well with familys.
Watch the Nintendo Keynote, it will give you a good understanding of their current direction. They know that the video game market has reached a climax, which it has, and that seonsened gamers were getting bored with the current same.

"Readers discouraged by Revolution's seeming lack of horsepower when compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 should remember that Nintendo is not interested in competing in the high-definition gaming arena, and as a standard-definition console, Revolution is more than capable. Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remains one of the most gorgeous games this generation and it ran on GameCube, a console at least half as powerful according to developer reports."
Oh, and you're forgetting tha the PS2 is the underdog when it comes to tech, It is technically inferior to the GameCube and XBox, but it ownes the console market.

What you need to do is just calm down.
I never said graphics were the end all, stop putting words in my mouth! If you had read my post, you would see I said that the people who judge only are graphics are stupid. All you see is something that doesn't express complete confidence in Nintendo and you go immediately into attack mode.
Calm. Down.

Give me a second while I take some Ritalin.
In general I was responding to you and DragonGames, I know you're not concerned about graphics, where as he seems to be, so I apologize if I've offended.

Me too, it's about freakin' time.
PS3 and Xbox360 both had pages up within minutes of the debut's at E3 last year, where was Rev's? Nowhere to be seen.
Graphics won't matter the day you get home and you are sword fighting in the Legend of Zelda while your friend sits at home and plays Halo 5. :)

When I was younger, I was stick fighting with my friend, and instead of telling me he was tired, he let down his gaurd and I hit him on the heed, so he probaly won't play any Revolution Sword Fighting games with me. :)
I like to yell. I do get a bit excited, especially since my connection issue has been resolved, it made me extra happy. :)
