I bought a brand new Tungsten T from an eBay purchase. The manufacturer's warrnaty is still valid and it was to be in perfect working order. When I received the product, it was indeed new and opened to check for materials. I tried to turn the PDA on but it wouldn't. So I thought that the batteries were dead. When I put the PDA into the charging cradle, it turns on. I set up everything. As soon as I take it off of the cradle, it dies and performs a hard reset. I left it on for 2 days and it still has the same problem.
Is there no battery or what? I got it new so should I do something?

Maybe you should open it and find out :)
Just don't tell Palm! ;)

That is not too surprising. Typically Palm devices are shipped with a minimal charge on the battery. The user is expected to fully change the device before trying to use it, typically overnight or all day. However, since the device sat on a shelf somewhere for 2 years or so, it is not surprising that the battery went dead. All Palm OS device, save the resent NVFS devices, use a small amount when turned off to keep the information in memory.

My understanding is that LiIon Batteries do not like to be completely drained. Normally there is a protection circuit, which prevents this from happening under normal usage. However, since being discharge for such a long period of time, I think what happened was the battery was taken too far.
At this point I would either:
Try to go back to the eBay seller, for the device sold was DOA.
Try to contact Palm for a warrantee repair. If both of those fail, there are a couple of places on the net that sell replacement batteries for the TT.

i think like potter was quoted as saying, the palm has not been used for years..no worries..if you can see the charging light, Keep charging it ....

lol @ that of course ..you have batteries inside else it will not charge (light)...just keep charging it 24 hours..and wake it up with a soft reset..TT would be fine.

Pgenie,
I left it on for 2 days and it still has the same problem.
I took that to mean that he tried to change it for two days straight. If that is the case, and it still does not work, then my assumption is that the battery is toast.

That should nt be a problem..waking up the TT with a reset instead of the power button should help!!!

It doesn't turn on regardless. The manufacturer wants me to contact them by phone and getting it repaired. I assume there's no warrantee but the seller keeps insisting that it has one. How would I resolve this since I don't want to spend any money on anything as I have paid for it already.

BTW, how would I go about changing the battery? I have no idea how to open the thing or anything but if it forces me to, I could buy a battery to replace it with since I only paid $43 bucks for it.

One more thing to try: An in the cradle reset, and then let it see charging for a few hours. Supposable the in the cradle reset recalibrates the charging circuit.
I assume there's no warrantee but the seller keeps insisting that it has one.Being "New in box" there probably is a warantee on it. However, there is a clause that often appears in warantees of, "purchaced from an authorized dealer". Is the eBay seller an authorized dealer? Maybe, maybe not. If not, will Palm honor the warantee anyways? Maybe, maybe not.
BTW, how would I go about changing the battery?PDAParts (http://www.pdaparts.com/) has the battery here (http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PA1382&Category_Code=BATT), and has take apart instructions here (http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=RD).

Is there a specific button for cradle reset or is it just resetting it with the reset button on the device while on the cradle? None of those seem to work. I hard reset it and everything. Nothing is working. I'm going to file a paypal dispute for DOA and then if I don't return it, I'll get a battery, I suppose. What other options are there?

In cradle reset means ... Performing a soft reset while unit is sitting on the cradle charging..no specific button...
And before you decide to open it up to void the warranty, why don't you take the seller's word  makes life easier unless you really want to be curious enough to perform surgery!:D
