The original Sony Clie OS 5.0 devices could play Flash files but I don't see an app on the macromedia site (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/). Does anyone know if there is a Flash player for the TX?

Thanks

Greg

There isn't one, much to the consternation of many of us.

I don't anything with flash app. It is useless anyway. Though it will look Netfront much better if you go sites where are flash objects. But still, it is flash 5 and some internet sites needs the newest flash.

Does Flash Player show sites that use Flash 5 *in NetFront*?

Well the Flash player doesn't actually show them but the Netfront. But I think it uses Flash player to play them or is there another flash build-in the Netfront?

I downloaded the flash player for palm (to my TX) from www.palmpowerups.com. (http://www.palmpowerups.com/downloads.php?cat_id=2&download_id=20)
I installed it
great
Now no matter where I put the .swf files the flash player on my TX tells no media files found!
Does it want the swf files in any specific folder ?

Yes; I think Dmitry wrote something about this; I think the path is /Palm/MMC/ or something similar on your SD card. Also, the file must be Flash 5 or earlier.

The path I use for flash files is.
Palm/Programs/MMFlash

Who is the copyright holder of the clie flash player? Maybe we could inquire with Adobe for permission?

Might as well inquire with micro$oft if you can offer people free copies of windows

I wonder if it's worth the hassle to port Gnash (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/)... It plays up to version 7.

considering it uses boost and openGL extensively, that would be a slow and huge project

You are right. I didn't check how it work's under the hood...
Damn same we don't have any form of 2d/3d acceleration in most palms...
Now days even mobile phones come with them.

i think boost would be a bigger problem then the acceleration. some good arm asm will be fast enough, but boost will be huge....

It depends on how much they rely on the boost libraries.
I doubt they have used all hte features, probably just memory management and a few containers although they might have used the mpl part which would be tricky (especially given the memory space of POS)...

Well yeah the hardware is somewhat there to get flash going but not for what a lot of people would want it for now (youtube vids either steaming the flash direct of the site or even the flv)

well, for that you do not need flash, just a FLV splitter and a VP6 decoder.
