Hi,

Until last month i was using a Sony 256Mb MS Select for playing Mp3 and ogg music files, i was ofcourse using Aeroplayer. Then i decided to upgrade my MS and bought a 256MB MS Pro (usable 245MB) this uses the MagicGate technology.

I formatted the MS in clie and put my tunes in only to find that aeroplayer playes about 4 secs (or a bit more in some cases) then skips a file only to move on to the next. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

I have thoroughly scanned the forums here and found that usuage capacity for most 256MB MS is 237 max.

Please reply.
Thanks

Were they the same songs that played correctly on your Sony 256MB MS Select?

Yep, the songs were the same. They were all in ogg format since i wanted the new aeroplayer and didnt want to pay extra for the mp3. My Sony Clie is TJ37/U bought in the US. Anyhow, i tried the mp3 files and found no improvement. Then i decided to use the TCPMP player. This worked, however it played each file once before starting to skip/hang on the the next round of playing.

This could likely be attributed to "MagicGate".

Well, since MagicGate is the only change, that has to be it. ;)

Well.. didn't want to be overly obvious. :)

I've not tried to duplicate the problem, but I suppose I could... Might be nice to know how MagicGate handles the copyrighted mp3s...

I don't think MagicGate is the problem. I have a Sandisk 256MB MS Pro w/ MagicGate and I don't seem to have problems with it. Even so, I think the "MagicGate Technology" only works w/ Sony's ATRAC3 format which is not supported on the TJ37.

Maybe he should just try to reformat it. Maybe something went wrong... :(

i too have a Sandisk 256MB MS Pro stick w/ MagicGate. i've never had any problems with it.

maybe a reformat, as dragonsgames mentioned, would fix your problem...

Check the connectors on your Memory Stick Pro. If all seems fine, check the regular Switch MS to see if it's working properly. If it does, I'd suggest getting a replacement from the vender or request help from Sandisk (3 year warranty). You might just get a replacement. Also, try doing a soft reset and make sure there aren't a lot of programs running "in the background" (DAs, hacks, programs etc.).

Thanks a lot people for the long list of recommendations. I'm afraid i've already tried all these. The reformat through Clie files being one of them. My MS Pro is by Sony by the way and - get this - allows 245.5 MB to be stored. I've read in various sites that 256 MB MS pro allows only 237 MB of usage space. I've done the reformat thrice already and no solution as yet.

The songs play now, but only a few of the ones i've copied on the MS. If i try to delete it the others it gives an error saying "Cannot find the file specified" and the proceeds to delete it! Ofcourse deletion is a slow process, as it gives an error on each file.

Maybe try some other audio player (demo) to see what happens? Ptunes works pretty well for me over a wide range of MS's.

well, if your MS has 245 MB of free space, there may be something wrong with the MS itself. probably something to do with the firmware? i don't see why it would have any effect, but i don't think your memory stick should have almost 10 MB more space than the rest of ours if they're all produced together.
