Nice Podcast. One thing I find annoying is how a lot of sites or the general idea of a student's device is one that is entry-level. I understand the budget issue but yet I find that me being a student looks for devices considered at the business level. Due to student's look for PDAs to replace their laptops in some instances and so need WiFi, BT, large bright screen, great battery life. and comfortable feel. I think the TX is more of a student device than the Z22.

Maybe students need more then the typical business models. In addition to WIFI, good battery life and all the stuff, we also need entertainment, eg. music, games... Maybe the "personal entertainment organizer" is the concept for a student device :)

By the way, how come PDA using moms are always related to soccer?

I agree, as I'm sure many of the other 1SRC regulars do as well, you are definitely *not* the average user. That said, I know that when I was in school, we're talking college here, I know that I couldn't have afforded anything more than a Z22. That was 10 years ago. This change, devices get cheaper and the demand for increased functionality as sited by intellidryad has pointed out, is more of the norm.

I don't know, really. I guess it has to do with the local soccer boom that happened in my neck of the woods a few years back. My girls are into gymnastics, so "gymnastic Moms" works too. Actually, that kind of paints an interesting mental picture.

Alan dude, you have GOT to stop pinning the mic on those P's.
You're overmodulating, or knocking the microphone or something.
There's a very very hard pop every few seconds.
*P*alm *P*owered *P*odcast is three spikes of pain in my headphones.
I'm suffering through it because the content is worth the pain.
*P*lease try to be more careful in future podcasts. It's a huge problem.

So giving a lot of thanks today are you Alan. :D

(Climbing out of the gutter)

Alan, having worked my way through school I can relate to your commnet about what you could have afforded as a student. W :D When I was in high school, the top of the line 'home" computer was the Altiar. Later there was the Apple, but I a) had no money b) had no money and c) did not see the apps out there for it. I recall scheming on ways to get an IBM PC and printer hookup so I could justify a student loan to buy one. (never did-) Living somewhere with exactly one electrical outlet had a little to do with it too <G>
But I digress. The point is that today the affordability threshold for students appears to be a lot higher in the students eyes. OTOH, the marketing decisions are being made by 40 somethings, some of who had to scrape to get through school.

Why don't you just lower the volume on your device? I usually listen to them on my PC so I have no problem.

I guess the Personal Entertainment Organizer is the concept for a student device for it does have the fun, seriousness and stability a student needs unlike Palm devices. :p

I looked at the waveforms and you can visualy see wide flat tops
where he's overmodulating. He doesn't have to take my word for
it, but it would be a better podcast if he controlled the strong
mechanical impulses hitting the membrane of the mic. Maybe put
a sock over it or some other porous buffer to keep the wind blasts out.
It's a lesson that needs to be relearned.

I like the podcast much better when it's around a half hour or so. The hour long podcasts, both from Alan & Jeff in the past, usually have a lot of rambling commentary. The ones that have come in at a half hour have been much more listenable & the hour long ones tend to bore me. I don't think there's enough going on in the Palm community to fill an hour.

Don't mean to be overly critical. I have a broadcasting background & these sorts of flaws are like fingernails on a blackboard to me.
