Big Problem

l just turned on my lifedrive and wham nothing....it was stuck on the lifedrive screen tried reseting it.....nothing helps....hard warm or other...its stuck right now on the secure erase screen ...dont know what to do....

its about 2 months old....bougth it on ebay have had no instabality issues or even reset loops used mostly for reading and some light games ie... edge uh its presently sitiing outside to keep it cool and will not shut of or any type of reset ...they all go back to the same screen ...i tred to di a hard reset...now its stuck on the secure erase screen :confused:

What software did you just add? You had to do something to the unit / software load to suddenly experience this problem.

no software added...i last made a memo entry and let it go to sleep then i turned t on and it locked up

well its tomorow....here we go....its pluged in an not turning on..just f#@cking great i can hear the hard drive clicking....evertime i reset it i hear the drive clacking....

You've probably tried this, but, as a last resort do a hard reset while the unit is plugged into a charger. That will also reset the battery memory which may help.

I'm guessing bad news though - if you are resetting and here some clicks probably the drive wanna start but cant. Or hopefully it spins and stops.

ok, if you stick the back of your LD (make sure there's no noise in the room), you can hear it spin - it's kind of a high ptich continuous noise. Do ya?

Not sure you tried it - Have you tried hard resetting it?

tried every form of reseting...during the hard reset it will sit there on the erase screens...with no progress bar...it will sit there doing nothing...sometimes the led will blink then it turns off....gonna try it all again...then....also i do hear a clatter noise and then the high pitched noise...then notning....i have to do all of this while pluged in....or it dies...im presently going to charge it for at least 2 hours++...then try it all over...

The worst that has happened to me was a continuous access to the drive (orange light always on). I was able to hard reset it and everything's fine.

joepagIII, sounds like your drive has failed. Keep us up to date about what happens.

will do....does the lifedrive work without the hd....also how can i discharge the battery...the best....seeing how it wont stay on...for any amount of time...i sumise the same however that the hd failed...kinda sux...havent had any issues at all now i need to either send it back and get a refund or exchange im thinking maybe the tx which i dont want to do but i only use it for reading and playing edge.....

well i did it...my warranty expired on the ld...so i dismantaled it andas far as i can tell the hd is bad....wont be read in any computer....insofar its all indicitave of a hd failure...so im going to try to rma the hd to hitache...well heres to hoping

How did your warranty expire? Don't these have a 1 year warrenty? The LD hasn't been out a year yet.

i bougth mine used ....only a 30 day warranty...didnt reup the one with palm....none of my other handhelds didnt have any warranty either...it sucks...ill try to work with palm...for returning it

by doing some googling i found out some specs on the hd and battery the hard drive is an hitachi microdrive 3k4 and the battery is a sanyo 1660mah uf463450f..also the internal antena is by gigaant

Well maybe you should try and get an image of the LD HD (don't know where though). And put it onto a Compact Flash Card. Your LF could then be reborn without the lag.

But there is one question to be answerd. I've heard that the HD gets spin on and off commands wich wouldn't work with the compact flash card, so it's a bit risky to even try.
