A blow has been dealt to all owners of mp3 players. Sony's new CD copy protection won't let you rip the songs onto your computer (along with the whole root kit thing). Does anyone know a way I can break through this protection so I can actually use this CD outside of my house or car? If so, please either post it here or PM me.

If you are referring to the sony-BMG CDs with XPC root kits, send the CD back for exchange, and they'll send you a normal CD copy and a link to MP3 downloads. (At least that's what they said on their web site)
I don't know about the others, but I've only bought 2 EMI CDs with copy protection. To be clear, they're J-pop CDs from "Toshiba-EMI". And the funny thing was that the DVD drive on my ASUS laptop (which was made by no other then Toshiba it self) simply ignored the copy protection :) So, I was free to do anything with it. Maybe you should find a friend with a Toshiba DVD drive and try it :D
But anyway, here's another way to do it: Boycot the copy protected CDs, and support non-protected CDs. Let's hope the labels get our message.

worse that that, the copy-protection has been hacked for viral code, you are in severe security danger by having the sony root kit on a disk. This is the reason for the exchange to normal CDs. The XPC root kit places your computer in incredible danger.
Note: if you have a disk with the Sony protection on it (and there are lists on the sony sites), exchange it, period. Even if you don't care one way or the other about the root kit preventing MP3s, do so for the safety of your computer. It loads software into memory on a PC that places your machine in great danger.
