Sorry to bust into your forum here, but I couldn't find what I wanted using the search feature...
Nice to meet you all, hopefully you'll be able to help me.
I've been the proud owner of the N760C for about 6 months after buying it refurbished off the Sony site after my S320's screen cracked. I've already replaced the connector on the bottom with the one salvaged from my S320 after too much corrosion made connections horrible... but other problems are popping up.
My screen isn't broken or anything, but my digitizer is off. On the left side of the screen it registers about 1/4 of an inch above the place tapped. A soft reset and full wipe does nothing, and going back to the digitizer screen doesn't work because it keeps repeating the steps over and over until I do another soft reset.
I can live with it for now though.
My main focus for now is this new PEGA- MD700 modem. Having recently switched to a cable connection, I no longer have a dial-up service to connect my modem to. So I want to connect my Clie's 56k modem to my computer's existing 56k card and in that way network it to use my computer's internet connection.
I already know from experience that the USB cable does not work because of some limitation or another for accessing the internet.
Google searches have turned up a number of sources, but none so far that have turned up anything on setting up a comp to share its internet connection with a clie through the modem.
So far I've already set my computer to be able to share its internet connection and established a dial up network (haven't tested whether or not I can call from someone else's house to establish the network yet, but I just want a direct connection in any case)... according to the various microsoft help files I've been reading.
I've also been reading through the multitude of Clie documentation on the web, which mostly relates to getting a serial cable (nah, I have this modem, so I might as well try and lead the way for others), and using that to make an internet connection using mochasoft. Whom I also contacted but said they don't support a modem connection with their software, only serial.
Also contacted Palm asking questions about how to do it, they said while they do license out their Palm OS, they are highly customized versions that differ greatly, but didn't answer my question if it was possible with any other palm device.
Contacting Sony has led me to this message board.... so here I am.
So then I'm reading the documentation that came with my N760C because the MD700's came with only one part useful to this question since the steps it outlined were for the S300 series and automatic for the N760C.
So now my Clie's setup looks like this so far on the default connection for the Sony Clie Modem....
Connect to: Modem
Via: Cradle/Cable
Dialing: TouchTone
Volume: Off
Speed 57600 kbs
Flow control: Automatic
Initiation string: AT&FX4
Changing any setting turns it into a custom connection, though I've read in the PEGA-MD700 documentation that changing it to "FX3" tells it not to listen for a dialtone.
---
Under Network... I have.
User Name: none
Password: -Prompt-
Connection: Sony Clie Modem
Phone: none (I've read 00 tells it not to dial something, but it hasn't worked so far)
Connection Type: PPP
Idle Timeout: 1 Minute
Query DNS: Yes (I want to know which numbers go here if I go manual)
IP address: Automatic (Not sure if I should bother going manual with this either).
And for script, the Sony Clie documentation says that the modem eliminates the need for a script.
Well... that's it. Anyone know how? It would seem simple enough, but it just isn't.
Thanks in advance.
