Hope someone here might be able to help. I am not at all familier with a palm/sony/ or any other brands. I saw some guy watching movies on his and was wondering what type of equipment one would need? Also, as the kids are looking at the i-pods, can these do the mp3 player thing too? How much RAM or memory card is needed and anything else I might need to know. Any model you would recomend and one brand or model over the other. If you have a book I should get thats fine too. Thanks for any help, Lyle

You need a SD (secure digital) card for movies and music, like the kind in your digital camera. In fact, if your camera has a SD slot, you can view the images taken on your Palm. Just go to http://palm.com and find the model right for you :)

In short... Yes a PDA can do quite a lot. I've got a Tungsten T|3 coupled with a 1Gb sd-card and I can watch movies, listen to music (mp3, ogg AAC), read books, play games as well as all the practical stuff like calendar, alarms and addresses. I could go on and on...

As for what kind and brand you should get? Well that's really kind of personal choice and unfortunately as the posters before me said - you'll just have to research a little. It's kinda like buying a car - some people want big that can carry a bunch and some people want small with good gas mileage.

As for the sd-card... I've got about 4 CDs worth of music, 15 novels, 15 short films and a bunch of pictures on a 1 GB card. I think a full length movie after conversion and compression is about 800 MB.
