And here I thought this thread was about the Michelin/Zire giveaway... Speaking of which, I'm in a bit of a quandry with respect to that whole thing in that I need new tires, and was all set to upgrade my current set of Michelin Energy MXV4s to Energy MXV4 Pluses. What's the quandry, you ask? I already told my girlfriend I would give her the free Zire, yet, after reading some horrible reviews of the new Michelin's online, have since decided on Pirellis.
Crap. Now it looks as though I'll actually have to pay $99 for that benighted piece of plastic... Still, you've gotta give Palm credit where credit's due. Who would have ever imagined that the PalmPilot Professional would still be the number one selling PDA in 2003?

Before you go and get the Pirellis, check out the BF Goodrich KDWS. I had a set of Pirelli Supersports and replaced them with the Goodriches. I was skeptical with how they would compare with my Pirellis (which handled awesome dry) but they were 98% of the Pirellis on dry pavement, but significantly better on wet pavement and snow. I mention it because they were $40 cheaper per tire, you could get her an SJ-10 with the extra cake.

Pigburger, I appreciate the risk you took taking this thread further off-topic like you did. You're a brave soul.
I will definitely check out the BFs. Today's snowstorm in Manhattan merely served to underscore my need for a good set of all-season tires - I'm too cheap to buy two sets of summer/winter tires.
If you don't mind my asking, what are you driving? Is it front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel-drive? I drive a Benz E420 (rwd/295+hp - extra hp due to Borla exhaust, Hypertech chip, and K&N air filter) and would like to retain as much dry weather performance as possible, since I do tend to push the car on the highway. That said, it ain't exactly a sports car, so I'm willing to give up some of the "at the limit" handling for a quiet, comfortable ride, and decent wet weather handling. PM me if you don't mind, this tire business is really confusing the heck out of me.

I had to email it to you, I'm so pathetic I wrote a 1700 character review of tires that wouldn't fit in a PM.
to try to get back on topic, it's not quite free but it's pretty damn good deal. $200 for an NR 70...

Pathetic? Hardly. Tires are an important and vital factor in maintaining proper control of one's vehicle on a day-to-day basis. Lives are literally hanging in the balance, man. God forbid I choose the wrong tire and lose control of my car in a handicapped nun zone. Oh, the humanity!
No, "pathetic" is hanging around a website dedictated to a line of PDAs... At least that's what my girlfriend says (and sister, and best friend, and mother, and co-workers...).

Where did you read the negative reports on Michelins? I thought the only drawbacks of Michelins were the price. Also did the reviews say the Pluses were worse than the original Energy MXV4's?

rrayl, try doing a google search on the tires. On the whole, the picture painted was rather grim. And yes, several reviewers felt the Pluses were a step down from the MXVs. Be sure to check out epinions.com, too. The Michelins were almost universally panned, but the BFs got good reviews.

PS - Uh... I'm trying to think of something that relates to this thread... Give me a sec...

Let's put everything in perspective people. Sure I'd like to have my family on the safest set of tires but let's be honest, I need a full color hi-res+ PDA that costs the same as a mid range set of tires. Honestly people, let's keep everything in perspective....
