Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered before, but just got a nx60, memory stick instead of magic gate due to $ and privacy issues related to magic gate. I have managed to get two songs onto the memory stick, and play them via the computer with MS import, but cannot get the audioplayer to recognize them. What am I doing wrong? P.S. I am sure someone has an easier way to get mp3s onto the nx60/MS than what I am doing. Any directions? Thanks!

Are your mp3's encoding using variable bit rate (vbr)? If they are then they wont play. DO a search on the website to see what encoding to use, but i think they generally work fine as long as they aren't encoding with vbr. Unless you got a MS reader the msimport is the easiest way to do it that i know how. I don't think it's very difficult.

I just double checked and the songs that I put on the MS are in 64K bit, not vbr. Again, what I cannot figure out is: I can access and play the songs when I connect the clie to my computer, and play them through media player, but the audioplayer on my clie says there are no tracks on the MS. I am (obviously) new to this and am sure I screwed this up at the start, but don't know where to go from here. Thanks

64k is not supported by the NX, well, technically it is, but Sony has disabled the support 96k+ is allowed. Also, the files have to be 44khz, which 64k files are usually not.

What folder on the MS did you use?

It has to be in the /Palm/Programs/MSAudio

No VBR

44.1KHz sampling rate

96kbps or higher bit rate

No MP3 Pro

File copy protect off

It's another form of recording, I think it gives better compression amongst other things, but since the clie doesn't support it, I never bothered to dig deeper.

MP3 Pro Rulez :)

I don't know much about it, all I know is that the file size is cut in half without losing any of the quality. They split the sound in two channels or something like that.

Any hope that the clie will ever support MP3 pro? I could double my music :)

I had a previous mp3 player and all my songs were converted to 64k.To play these on the NX, you just need to change them to 44.1khz.Use Goldwave and the batch conversion link.Set the conversion to 64k and 44.1khz and they will work perfectly.
I usually download at 128k which is already 44.1khz, and then convert to 64 and 44.1.This way I have a copy for burning on discs and I have a half size file for the clie.

Umm, it can't do 64Kb/s MP3s? That's lame, given that you don't exactly have a lot of storage space on these things :(

I have 128mb on my Nx-plenty of memory.
From NX-About track-Format - MP3,44.1kHz,64kbps.

Wait, are you saying it DOES do 64Kb/s? That bit rate is decent for like talk radio, and yeilds about 25MB/hour, which isn't too bad for a 128MB memory stick.

It will also do 32kbps,as long as you convert to 44.1kHz.
The sound at 32kbps is terrible though.

So when you make a typical MP3 at 64Kb/s, what frequency is it using? Less than 44khz, I take it?

Guess I'll have to experiment once I get one.

Hi could you tell me how to install lame.exe as it doesn't seem to be in the lame zip file after downloading! Razorlame needs it...I did extract everything in c:\razorlame (eg Lame and Razorlame)
Thanks in advance...
