Does anyone know where I can get a replacement battery for the Sony Clie NX73V other than the Sony Parts department ($44 +s/h)? If I gotta go there I will. I've read through a number of posts and finally figured out that I'm not alone with the issue of a surprised dead battery.
Other than that, this is a pretty cool PDA. But that's a lot like saying, other than that little mishap, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln.
I think I'm in the hunt for a more reliable Sony Clie

I recently was able to get a battery for my nx70 on ebay for $15 including shipping. You should try there.

Google 'clie nx-80 replacement battery' for possible options. I will likely order my replacement battery from Laptops for Less. Cost is $26 plus shipping. I believe they also include the screwdriver you need to remove the star-type screws on the back of the unit.

I'm still googling and will stay on top of ebay. I was hoping someone had already experimented and found a comparable replacement battery that worked. Worst case scenerio, I'll buy a new battery then sell this system on e-bay and get one that isn't such a challenge to maintain.

:) Thanks for the web site, and for the other information. As it turns out, the original Sony tech support person I spoke with was either not knowledgeable or was having a bad day. He said there was ONLY one battery that would work in the NX73/V. I'm happy to find that there he was wrong. Nonetheless, I still plan to upgrade from my NX73 as soon as I make sure it's functional again.
Is there a page on this site for selling PDA's and peripherals?
I don't want to violate any of the site rules.

Since I'm bending your ear anyway...I am considering upgrading to another PDA. I NOW know that Sony is out of the PDA business, Handspring and others are following suit. It appears that Palm is the only one still in the business, actively working on making thier products better and supporting the ones they already have.
I'm leaning toward the Palm TX, but of course I'm also reading the TX forum and am a little under impressed with its performance.
Any suggestions?

if you search "nx73 battery" on ebay there are batteries listed by mobilestore1 for ~$15 including shipping which will work fine in your nx73. That's where I got my nx70's battery, which works great.

Alas, they do not. They supply a tiny philips and a tiny standard screw driver, but no 5 star Torex security screwdriver. I'm mulling my options right now.

There are a couple companies that sell that screwdriver, but only to licensed technicians, not to private individuals.

Unfortunately my NX73 still blinks on and off whether it is in the cradle or directly charging through the cable. It also will not retain a charge and I'm thinking it wasn't the battery after all. Since it's out of warrantee and since Sony doesn't even make them anymore I'm probably looking at an expensive doorstop.:o
You will see this item advertised AS IS in the classified and on ebay soon.
It looks good...it just doesn't work anymore. :(
