Hot battery

I've had this happen twice to me. For some reason when using my T-mobile SIM (swapped with my O2 SIM) I found aftyer a couple of hours my GSM Treo 650 decided to switch off (phone part). Then later that day (about 8 hours later) I found that the unit was very warm, the battery was hot and drained. What could have caused this?

- should I remove the battery first before swapping SIMs
- should I turn off the BT before swapping SIMs

I have had the T-mobile SIM in my phone now for a few days and no other problems.

Any thoughts?
