I have several movies on my clie NX70V, I'd like to get them to my desktop and play them. Can someone help me with this procedure please.

Run MSImport on the NX, copy the movies from /MQ_ROOT/100MQV01/ on the Memory Stick to the desktop. Then you can either rename those files from xxxx.MQV to xxxx.MOV and then open them in Quicktime (you need Quicktime 6 to view them by the way). Or you can double-click the files and tell Windows to open them in Quicktime.
If I may interject another question about the clie movies; is there any method to change the name of the movie using the clie itself?

There is an application that change the name of the .mqv movie so that your clie can still rocognize it to play, but i think it's run on the desktop, not the clie. I'll post the link if i can find it, right now i can not. You might try searching for it yourself.

NX Movie Aide. You can use it to change the name on the desktop or the Clie.

In order to make Quicktime movies playable on your NX70, you need to use the ImageConverter software that comes with the NX70 installation CD. It's a Windows desktop software that converts the movie and can directly install it on your Memorystick if the Clie is in the cradle and MSImport is running.
It works great! :D

Are you changing the format when you import into the Clie? I got the same result great video and no sound. It saved it to the movie player format. Is there a way to change to Mpeg movie format?

CoryMcGhee, did you use the ImageConverter software? All I do is just to open the software, drag and drop the movie and tell it to start the conversion. It worked with a couple of movies, but perhaps there is a problem with the audio codec in your movie.
About MPEG, I saw a thread in this forum where they wrote that you can play native MPEG-1 and MPEG-4 movies on the NX70 when you transfer them into the right folder on your memory stick. Perhaps you just search the forum for "mpeg".

I have the matrix reloaded trailers on my Clie and they play fine. I have the superbowl one and the theatre one from the apple site. Use the included image converter.

I am having the same problem - I AM using the ImageConverter software.
I have tried 2 .mpg files - 1 worked, 1 did not, despite repeated attempts.
I have tried .mov (QT) files - 2 different ones - and I get a video with no sound on my Clie.
at a .25 success rate, I can say I am not thrilled with ImageConverter. If Sony insists on using proprietary formats so heavily, they can at least provide media in that format, or a converter that works with some regularity.

To play .MPG movies (mpg1 only) use this path:
MSSONY/MOML0001/(MPG file here) - make sure to rename the file using the MOV00001.MPG convetion. You may have to create the new folder(s) on you memory stick.
The problem lies within the movie trailer itself and not the Image Converter. Sometimes the trailers are in a specific format (kinda like encryption) that still allows you to view it perfectly with QuickTime, whereas when you try to convert it again, eg. to palm using Image Converter you loose the audio sound.
Try converting the original movie trailer itself with Quicktime Pro 1st, to other types of format which is also supported by QuickTime, do check the "Audio" properties during your conversion. After a few time of playing around with QuickTime exporting to other movie format & trying it out on your Clie, you'll be able to figure out which sort of format will work.
Have fun, after a few time of playing around, you'll definitely figure it out. I encountered this very same problem in the early days when I was using my Clie N710 playing with gMoive Player! The trick was to work with the original Trailer with QuickTime Pro. :D

ImageConverter is picky about what is wants. I Know for mpeg conversion you need exactly VCB specification....otherwise you are bound to run into trouble

Some Quicktime files are "protected" and don't allow conversion. Why this would be done with a trailer is beyond me, but it is pretty common. (You'd think they'd like the free advertising that conversion and distribution of the trailers gives them? Very strange.) When you try to convert a protected video, you get picture with no sound.
If the trailers are protected, then Quicktime Pro won't convert them either (it will tell you the movie doesn't allow saving, or something like that).
There is a program called "Dumpster" that can edit and remove the copy guard on Quicktime files. Google it for more info (the program is from Apple, but there is a PC version).
