New ZL Skin

Well i plan on working/starting a new ZL skin in the coming weeks. If anyone wants to give ideas/requests post them here. I made a new thread so that I am no hi-jacking Icemans thread. :)

I was thinking some sort of Blueish theme. Blue always seems to look pleasant on handhelds.

I have had requests to port my Kreame Suite (also the the theme for my site) for PcoketPC to Palm OS. That may happen, but not for this theme and not anytime soon.

Oh man!!!!! I can not believe you are not converting this theme to Palm OS. Looks good bump that. But if same concept will be applied for upcoming themes for ZL on Palm OS then I have no problem waiting.

There seems to be something about blue. When I sold art glass, blue sold the most. Mac OSX skin(s) have blue in them. The basic palm OS is blue. WinXP is blue. Alienware has blue in it. When BuRnN made the blue mako skin it looked great. I had wanted to do an Alienware in green, and I played with it and the blue just looked better.

I know what you mean by blue. I love it for my Palm. I plan to use these icons by by David Brelo.

I just purchased your XP Olive Green ZL skin, and first of all I love the overall theme and colors. Great job!

I do feel that you stopped just short on attention to detail, however. Several of the bottom/top bar icons I use, you do not supply. So I'm left with blank icons. If I wanted to use text in the battery, the numbers are jammed far left so that "100%" looks like "00%".

I like the skin and am pleased with it as it is, but if you could update it with these attentions to detail, that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ;)

Has it been updated for ZL 5.xx with the resizable bars and such? The Win XP skins are what made me get interested in Zlauncher (though I'm too cheap to buy skins...sorry). I just make my own now. Its like a tattoo, if its not my own work I'll appreciate it but not USE it.

They support ZL5 as far as the pluginbar/panel. I am not aware of resizable bars. Where can I read about this?

I got permission from David Brelo but I am awaiting email about obtaining the icons. I dont know how to extract contents of a .ip file. (aka Icon Packager)

The plug in panel resizes itself for screens 320 to 480 resolution. The top, bottom and tool bar have this same feature. I am not sure when they added this functionality as I didn't start skinning till recently.The manual on zl skins explains each bitmap, which I printed out and refer to it all the time! I use ZL Skin Constructor and it tells me which images are not used since the newer skins still have all the old bitmaps compiled still.

by the way you could use it to to make all kind of skin (you haven have a preview of you actual skins)

wellsjs can you post a screen for me.As requested. Note the battery indicator . . . the "1" is so jammed into the left edge of the battery, that it's practically unreadable. Can you center the text on the battery? Also notice the blank icons (one top right, one bottom left that can't be seen, and two bottom right)? They are:

Popup Setup List, QuickLaunch+, Lock & Off, and Launch Prefs App - respectively.

I beleive my skins already support landscape and pluin panel resizing. I use them on my Zodaic.

icl-icon-extractor looks nice. I have I con Workshop already. But I dont see the support of .IP files in icl-icon-extractor. Still I will give it a try. :)

I havent used HP Skin studio, I am still a ZLTM man! :D Perhaps I should try soon.

I would not call it flaws. Keep in mind the skin was designed to resemble more the desktop than to be like a palm os type thing.

Its hard to have a complete set, Then I would get a bunch requests to have this and that. That would be a ton of .PDB files. Thats why I favor PocketPC skining because PPC's use actually image files such as .PNG's so I can just add in a "Extras" folder and put in the requested files. I wish Palm OS was that easy.

The skin was made to put the menu button, the soft key/silk app, zl quick launch and others on the start button. I dont think a complete set should be included. I find it fine as well as others do.

I pushed the battery to the far right in the battery/memory images to make fit in the far right better. Thus you see the text off center to the eyes.

Normally some would "Live with it and thats how it comes." But I believe in fairness loyalty between customers and developers. So go to the contact page of my site (Do Not PM Me, I rarely check PM's) and send me your Order # and Date Of Purchase. I will then create you a custom skin of the one you purchased. But please dont (or anyone else) get used to this, I am on a very tight schedual.

I won't put you to that trouble. I actually prefer the battery without text on this one because it adds to the orange/green color scheme I have emphasized (on my other tabs, the icon text is orange, like the 4Cast plugin text). I have tweaked a little based on your design concept described above. I did away with the seldom used "lock & off" button. I put the "Prefs" button in QuickLaunch+ and am only left with the top one, "Popup Setup List," which I can't do without. It's OK if that one is transparent/blank. That's pretty cool that the transparent Quicklaunch+ button makes the "Start" button appear to actually work. So I'm cool! :cool: Thanks for a great ZL skin!

Hey FIA... I love the WRC too. I would love a WRC Zlauncher skin/theme etc. I would pay for it if it was a full featured theme with customized battery, Rally sounds, etc.

I doubt I will do a DIA for T devices. Way to much for me to handle. Maybe a VG and SB and Zodiac DIA. But thats far off if ever.

I am sure I could recreate the background if I chose to. But I just grabbed a wallpaper from, my cool-lection to give it life for now. ;)

The only easy part is batch resizing them. Its eliminating the "halo" that kills me, provided the resource files is a png with a transparant background. I used to actually crop the preview jpegs of icon sets till BuRnN turned me on to icon extraction. That took a hell of a lot of time! :eek:

I know where you are coming from. :) I had tons of VAIO Wallpapers and I resized them all manually for my TH. Took me forever! I resized and cropped the walls. Then I got Photoshop and I learned to batch. Then I realized the amount of time I wasted! I am sure all that manual work could have been used better somewhere eles. ;)

Oh and a another thing, as far as news for the skin I am working on... I am taking a minute break. :D In others its on hold 'till I get back to feeling myself.

I can do much right now. I had to cancel my workout routine and recreation. :( Once I am fully charged you bet I will get back to working on this. :)

I feel the same. With a newborn in the house it seems that when I do have free time (ie everyone else asleep) I'm too bleary eyed to do anything productive.
