View Full Version : Alternative Home button for T|X
Mobile Stream
11-09-2005, 03:56 AM
There is an alternative home button application for T|X at http://www.mobile-stream.com
It is free, causes no slowdown for other apps and shows a list of recently launched apps.
A possible problem is that it was only tested on a T|X simulator (as x86 build).

You should post such a thing AFTER having it tested on a real device!!
Just 1 prc in the zip; no comments, no readme, no disclaimer.
I ain't gonna install that - I stick with a stable SharkTXfix.
Anybody else wann try?

I decided to risk it! Did a backup first, of course. For now, seems to work fine. I actually prefer the "find" on the menu instead of the Sharkfix stroke. It does put a permament link to www.mobile-stream.com on the recent apps menu, but I can live with that.

It's not that bad! Just publicity from a free app.

Thank you very much for your time investment and offering with this application. I'm sad that there were unnecessary cinical replies to your post of a free offering for the tx. I personally feel like you have every right to place a mobilestream.com link in that popup. You created the application! Thanks again for the offering.

I say thanks very much too!
But maybe the developer should think of doing a registered version where a small fee gets rid of the advert.

I've got it and installed it. Much easier to install than the shark fix (don't have to copy files or anything). Also it does come with a .txt file that has install and uninstall procedures. It is only about 12kb in size, compared to the 180kb for the full shark. Works in both portrait and landscape. I have tried both of the fixes, and I'm staying with this one for now.

Okay, I just installed it straight from the 'net, unzipping with Resco. Copied to RAM, soft reset, and voilá! No problems!

One problem with this patch over the SharkTXFix is that it wants to use it's own icon for "Home." I had a modified DIA and it pasted its own home icon over what should have been there. No worries, I just had to decompile it using PFCD, paste the custom Home icon over their custom "abmp19260-8-d144.bmp" - "abmp19265-8-d144.bmp" then recompile using PCFD.

How do you access the "Find" command, after this has been installed?
Thanks

The next version of mySkin uses the home icon from the DIA skin that you load, and can do the popup list and the go home. Search is available by holding down MENU. Right now, it all seems to more or less work, but I am adding icons to the popup list.

BTW, I also noticed that unlike SharkTXFix it does not slow down a backup with BackupBuddyVFS Pro 3.2.7. :D

btw, really thanks for making this tool free.
i dont care whether there is any link.
it offer us smaller size, and easier installation procedure. (this is a good news)
i would be good if it is stable....
and, i can access "find" via make a stroke from "home" to upper part of screen.,

This works great... thanks... better, faster, and smaller than Shark.
I like the way this worls better, but that's just my opinion.
With Shark, I kept launching find when I hit home.

I haven't had any problems with the SharkTX fix, but it's nice to know there are other options out there.
I found a bug with the application provided by mobile stream. For me it turns out that the seventh most recently used application remains "stuck" in that seventh position until that application is run again. What happens is if an application that is not in the listed applications is run, the sixth application in the list is removed instead of the seventh application being removed from the list.
Do others see this behavior as well?

What I see is the 7th slot fixed to a program, but the other six rotate through just fine, no problems. When I select the 7th program, it goes to the top, and a new one goes into slot 7. Not that big of deal to me even though I never use this function. It is worth it to have the home application back. Also, how did it work before applying this fix?

I'm very glad to see this and I am a big fan of Mobile Stream's work! I will continue to keep SharkTXfix on my server and will update it with ARM support (like what MS's fix has) and a better swipe algorithm to prevent false find launches. apart from that, whichever method you like better...

Alt Home button fix has been updated. Now there are two versions:
a) HomeWithFind.prc just replaces the Find button.
b) HomeNoGoLCD.prc removes the GoLCD (Graffiti on the screen)
button, shifts other buttons and shows the Home icon on the left
side of the status bar as usual.
DO NOT INSTALL BOTH FILES AT THE SAME TIME.
"Stalled application in the list" problem has been fixed as well.
To uninstall the previous version (this is a necessary step), use FileZ, change the database type 'aexo' to 'aex1', then soft reset and delete the database (the device might crash at this step - this is normal) then soft reset again.

Yes. Please see the readme.txt for uninstall instructions.
Thank you Mobile Stream for the updated version. It works great. I even prefer the name change which reflects what the .prc is for better than the old .prc file name.
I'm using the HomeWithFind.prc. I don't think I want to live without the Graffiti on the screen button since I do use it from time to time.

I installed the Mobile-Stream replacement home key and have found that when I use the Find option in the pop up when I hold the new HOME key down that my TX does a soft reset after entering text and pressing OK. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I am using mobile-stream alternate home button for the TX. I switch to landscape mode to launch the scummvm emulator. after quitting the application and returning to Applications, the landscape mode switch in the bar is disabled, it becomes enabled only after launching another third party program, but not if I launch calendar or contacts, etc.
After removing mobile stream the problem persists. Anyone knows if this is due to the the third party app?

I use Grayhide. IconFix is also very nice and is active right now. I'm presently patiently trying to determine what is making my TX reset out of the clear blue.... sometimes doing a hard reset.... my next step is to reactivate Greyhide. I don't have much loaded besides the ROM stuff, Agendus Pro 10.03, and a couple of other must haves. Seems stable now, but before the last hard reset and start from scratch last week, it sure wasn't.
If this doesn't work, I'm going to chuck it up against a brick wall.....

Persistent link to our site in the popup menu has been removed. Uninstall the previous version before installing a new one.
A minor comment on how the txhome works.
palm T|X (as well as T|T3, T|T5 and LD) has an undocumented interface for special applications called "slips" that reside on a status bar. Any button on a status bar is a separate application. So txhome is no more "hack" than any standard status bar button on the T|X.

Just tried it for the first time (I held out without "hacks" for the first two weeks, just to see what I could get used to). Very nice.
Are there any chances for "options" with this fix?
- longer pop-up list?
- permanently attach selected apps to pop-up list?
- prevent current app from appearing in pop-up list?
If not, I still love this application, thanks again!

This program seems like a great fix, but I want to confirm something: As is, on my TH55, I have Hi-Launcher connected to my Home button on the statusbar so that when I tap on the home button, my Hi-Launcher menu pops up. Will this program interfere with this function on a TX?

This program launches ZLauncher when I tap the home icon on my T|X, so there's no reason why it wouldn't launch Hi-Launcher on yours.

It is near perfect!! The recently opened app list is great!! The only flaw, in my opinion, is that the new DIA bar is not as good as the FixedStatusBarResources.prc found in the SharkTXfix 1.2. The white border around the new Home icon is disturbing, to me.

Exactly what I thought first...., but:
The white border is also around the button the most right, the collapsible DIA.
So it looks nice in general.
A custom recent app list would be great: add a kind of favorites and make it longer.

Hi
Has anyone found the mobile stream home Fix (Homewithfind.prc) causes their TX to reset when the power gets down to around 60% ? It does'nt happen all the time.
It must be this as I now have nothing else installed (application wise) on the TX, I even removed the sercuity update incase it was that. Upon removing it from the TX now seems fine.
Regards
P.S
Also there was no web link from mobile stream on the recent app menu.

Quite possibly. I'm trying to track down a "lose all power" problem, and I have that TX home button fix as well. (I thought it was Pane {a birthday program}, but that didn't do it, and I was presently considering if it was a sustained key press when in pants pocket kind-of-thing.) Do you mean "reset" or "loss of power"?

In the old days, if you tapped the house more than once, palm os would cycle to the next category. Now, it switches to "Favorites". Does anyone know how to change this?
Or can I make a request to Mobile-Stream that your Alternative Home button force my T|X to behave in this manner?
Thanks.

I use LauncherX and tapping the home button switches tabs as it always has done.

I second Greenchile505's question\request. It's a bit overdone to install an additional launcher just for the sake of cycle tabs. It would indeed be nice if this homefix app could skip the favorites.

Does Greyhide work with MyKbd on the T|X? The readme says
"To uninstall:
---------------
Use Filez, Mcfile or a similar tool and find "StatusBarResources"
in RAM. Delete it. Perform a soft reset to restore
the grafitti area to original state."
Can you uninstall with MyKbd by simply selecting another skin, or do you have to use Filez to remove Greyhide?
Also, does it have wifi icon to connect to wifi?
Thanks! Looks like a sweet skin.
